Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt Empty Re: Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt

Post by Theomore Tullison Sun Apr 19, 2015 4:52 pm

Ser Theomore, his squire and some mountaineers he enjoyed the company of set out on a fishing trip. On a whim, he had also invited the lady Jeyne, the daughter of some Tully sworn sword, pretty and quite excited by the prospects of seeing the wilds with a handsome and well traveled knight from afar, too excited perhaps, or did she know what would happen? Theomore was not unfamiliar with both those alternatives, and he welcomed both.

While the squire and the mountaineers did fish, oh, Jeyne and Theomore had a go at that as well, but secluded from the others as they were, things went as they usually do when Theomore finds himself alone with a young lady, especially in a quite enchanting clearing with soft and inviting mossy ground. His party did very well indeed, hauling back more trout than one should think men without local knowledge should be able to catch this time of day.

Most impressive of course, are the stories ser Theomore returns with. After all, no proper fishing trip is without a good tale about a man's exploits...and this one was fantastic and considering the amount of nice looking catch brought back, maybe even only exaggerated in the most dramatic moments. All could agree though, it was a good tale, and quite vividly told.

Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt Empty Re: Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt

Post by Dunstan Tullison Mon Apr 20, 2015 12:58 am

Lord Dunstan rode out surrounded by the stern faces of Tullison guards. On high alert there were ten of them, all with spears attached to the side of their horses.

Elie and Gwyneth Marsten were Dunstans hunting companions and they seemed to enjoy each other's company. Laughing and making jokes on the guards account it is visible Dunstan considered this day to be a field trip and not a competition.

As they unmounted from their horses to sit down and have lunch next to the lake, Dunstan jumped up suddenly. Disappearing in the bushes for a while he came back with a rabbit in his hands! All the guards and pages were slightly amused with the stunt of his and the day was marked by some of the more impressive catches yes, but all remember Dunstan's little gimmick as well.

They continued to ride and enjoy the sunny afternoon, chasing small animals. Gwyneth spotted a pheasant and Dusntan was proud when he managed to shoot it down with an arrow.
Day was finished with a nice trip to the lake, where they caught a decent amount of fish. All in all it was a pleasant and fruitfull afternoon.

Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt Empty Re: Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt

Post by Benedict Marsten Tue Apr 21, 2015 4:19 pm

Ben sets out with some of the house guardsmen for the hunt, feeling it appropriate for him to form a good standing and friendly relationship with them since he would be spending much time with them in the future. They joked and gossiped like serving girls and Ben did his best to compete with both. Despite the rain and fact that he wished he could have went with Dunstan, he enjoyed the camaraderie of the men.

As the rowdy group turned the corner in the trail they flushed out a covey of quail. Most men were not even able to get a shot off. Ben did but was sure to never find his arrow again. The men all made light and hoped Lord Dunstan was never attacked by quail, for surely he was doomed.

Later they emerged from the woods to a small clearing. Tall grasses covered the area except were man had worn a path. Reining up, the men dismounted and readied themselves this time. They pressed into the grasses, pages holding the horses. Out shot a herd of rabbits! Arrows flew crisscrossing the glade. When done all the menacing rabbits had been slain. Three cheers went up.

The path continued down to the riverbank where the men decided to try fishing, a much easier and safer sport. They managed to catch three naps, two pairs of wet breeches and branch. The closest real catch was a large trout that broke the line when close enough to grab.

Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt Empty Re: Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt

Post by Ser Jorah Holt Wed Apr 22, 2015 12:53 pm

Ser Jorah set off initially with a few House Coldbrook retainers, hunting down a few game birds. Hunting was not his forte, but still they bagged a few, keeping an eye out for other parties. Other members of the house would be joining him later to see if they could catch some bigger game.

Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt Empty Re: Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt

Post by Garret Snow Wed Apr 22, 2015 5:11 pm

Garret broke off from the main Coldbrook party to try his luck with a hunting bow. Trekking through the game-trails, with bow in hand Garret came across a small pond circled by skinny trees where a handful of ducks floated on the still water. Nocking an arrow, Garret pressed his back against the truck of a willow and let his breath rush out as he drew back the bowstring. The arrow hissed like a snake and flew from the bow as the ducks took to the air. One duck fell back to the pond, splashing into the water with an arrow through its neck. Nodding in satisfaction, Garret waded into the water and retrieved his quarry, before heading back to the Coldbrook party.

Early afternoon
: 2d6 9

Satisfied with his catch, Garret met with Ser Jorah and Loreia and the trio embarked deeper into the woods looking for more challenging game. The game trails found through the dense underbrush, but in time they discovered the tracks of a deer. Eager for such a prize, they picked up the pace to find the beast. Finally in a clearing they spotted it, a young whitetail buck grazing peacfully. The trio of hunters spread to different points of the clearing, moving quietly to not disturb the animal. Drawing closer, Garret nocked an arrow to his bow and took his shot. The arrow when wide, startling the buck. Quick as a flash it darted towards the safety of the deeper woods. The trio attempted to give chase, but the buck was too fast, quickly disappearing out of sight. The three Coldbrook hunters were forced to return empty handed.

Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt Empty Re: Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt

Post by Loreia Wed Apr 22, 2015 6:30 pm

Loreia isn't interested in sitting around waiting on fish, and honestly is quite bored alone. She has her dog sniff for something, but it seems as though everything they go after knows they are coming and are in their burrows before they can catch sight of them. The few times she catches sight of a bird or a rabbit, she finds her aim wanting as the game escapes. She frequently peeks at the blade of her sword, absent-minded in leave from watching either of Lord Tomas' sons, and in absence of engaging activity. She decides to meet up with Garret in hopes that teaming up will refresh her senses.

Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt Empty Re: Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt

Post by Athelstan Thu Apr 23, 2015 7:57 am

Athelstan will go fishing, its easy enough and simple task he can do by himself. Picking a spear and getting into a stream of water to get some fishwhile the main Logshore party figures out what will they hunt, Athelstan will wait patiently to aid in a boar or deer hunt, by helping chasing the prey and guide it to the hunters.

Waiting few moments and standing still as a statue he awaits his prey and with a quick single motion he stabs the water with his spear, and with with some care he raises it, with a nice fish still alive fighting with futility, Athelstan is satisfied for now, and carries it back to the Longshore group.

Disappointed by their efforts, he turned back to working with Coldbrook retainers. However, by this time, the game had become more scarce due to the number of hunters and their efforts were in vain.

No luck again. After about an hour of hunting exclusively for rabbit with no success, Loreia gives up the Hunt and joins Lord Tomas' entourage for the rest of the event.

Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt Empty Re: Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt

Post by Baelon Drakeson Thu Apr 30, 2015 12:25 am

Baelon rides off into the forest with Lord Haig Bracken, known as the "
The Beast of Bracken"
, and his son Ser Wyll, the three men laughing loudly over some unheard jest.

They begin their hunt by tracking the hoof prints of a stag - a massive one, judging by the distance between the tracks. Perhaps they have stumbled up on the trail of the white stag that is legendary among the local hunters? No, just an ordinary red stag, though impressively large and bearing a crown of sixteen points.

: 4d6+1 20

Lord Haig decides that he wants pork for supper, so they exchange their bows for boarspears.

A couple hours later, they find startle up a boar, and Lord Haig puts it down with powerful thrust to it's heart.

Suddenly another boar bursts from the undergrowth, taking all three men b surprise! Lord Haig is gored by the beast, but drives it off and laughs off the injury, slowly making their way back to Riverton with a wounded man and a heavy boar.

Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt Empty Re: Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt

Post by Luecian LongBow Sat Oct 10, 2015 2:11 am

Luecian wanders off into the forest alone with only his bow as company. With his longbow strung and an arrow knocked he slowly creeps through the woods searching for local wildlife tracks. Movement in the brush catches his eye and he spots a rabbit departing the brush ahead, he calmly pivots and takes the shot dropping the rabbit mid hop.
TN 9
: 5d6 10

Later he tries his luck again, hoping to find some deer tracks to follow. He does locate a set of very recent tracks that likely belong to a young bug as evidenced by the nearby tree scrapings. He follows the tracks a good way until they seem to end in a thicket. He waits patiently by the nearby stream and sure enough the buck makes an appearance. Luecian draws his bow and bags himself a young buck.
TN 12
: 5d6 17

Wanting to add a stag to his day's take, Luecian enters the forest once more to try his luck. He finds some local stag tracks but they are not overly fresh and he is unable to find the creature that left them however.

Disappointed with his afternoon's work, Luecian heads back to commiserate with his fellows and a good tankard.

3 points- 1 rabbit + 1 deer

(OOC- there were only 3 afternoon hunts max correct? Not the best luck on my first rolls....)

[OOC: this has my blessing to build up some background for Luecian. Rotten luck here on something your character is good at. Sad

Remember you can use destiny, albeit you'd need to burn a point to succeed at the final roll here, which seems a poor trade. Better luck in the archery]

Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt Empty Re: Day 2 - early to late afternoon: The Royal Hunt

Post by Aerion Storm Wed Nov 30, 2016 6:55 am

Aerion follows in the wake of the larger party. He's got a pair of wineskins strapped on -- neither of them for him -- and a heavy bundle of spears, all lashed together, under one arm. The other arm, though? A free hand for a spear of his own. A thick boar spear, topped with a great, broad, blade, and with a proud set of wings just behind it, to keep any blood-mad creature from running right up the shaft.

He'd been officially tasked with carrying the wine and the bundle. Ser Harbert had bade him carry his own, though, knowing full well how capable he was with it.

"If some tusky bastard gets close, show him what you're made of, eh? Don't let anyone get gored, boy."

There was no risk of that, though, unless 'gored' had become a euphemism for 'drunk as a Dornishman, and twice as loud.'

There was plenty of stomping, plenty of storytelling, plenty of drinking -- lightening the load of the wineskins for him, at least -- but nary a beast to be seen. Like it was on account of the stomping, storytelling, and drinking, but Aerion's no expert on such things.
