Dunstan walks inside the Sept to pray to the Warrior, for him to guide his lance well in the upcoming joust.

When he sees Elie inside his short attention span comes into play and he says quite loudly "
Elie!"
disturbing the peaceful atmosphere a bit. Realizing he was loud he shrugs and sends her a chuckle.

Yoren turns to Corrine: "
I'll participate, although I doubt that I will come far as there are some much better jousters, although I will do my best... that is all any man may do isn't it?"

Yoren turns to Corrine: "

Yoren lowers his voice slightly as he asks: "

He asks, a little anxious.

Corrine detects his odd tone, and looks at him curiously.

I am Lady Marsten's only child, the heir to Hartshorn, my lord. Kevan is my cousin. Why do you ask?"

Yoren ushers her slightly off before explaining: "
I was just thinking, you have a problem with Clansmen, and I am thinking that my house, who has several units made for hit and run tactics ourself, may prove to be helpful in getting rid of these bandits... We will of course need some assistance to be able to make the trip, moving soldiers is draining business for an economy, but upon arrival we may gladly clear this scum from Marsten land forever!"

Yoren looks around, self conscious as his voice ran high towards the end. He quiets and adds: "
what do you think?"

[Lady Corrine Marsten]

This was normally Lady Isobel's purview, but Corrine was feeling more confident in her diplomatic abilities after dealing with Lord Krieger. Besides she would never escape her mother's shadow if she did not practice stepping out from beneath it.

Your offer is generous and appreciated, my lord,"
she replied politely. "
Would this be a temporary arrangement, or would you consider committing permanent forces to House Marsten's service? I believe I can help House Longshore improve its reputation as a functioning part of the Realm. Your brother has spoken to me very compellingly about bringing the Ironborn into a more integrated position in the Seven Kingdoms. Is that a goal you share?"

Yoren looks at this woman, baffled by her willingness to deal with ironborn. He quicly regains his composure and sets to negotiate. "
Temporarily is what would work best, our soldiers would not take kindly to being away from the sea permanently. However, the task of moving soldiers would require gold, and as I am suure you are aware of, we are very short on that for the moment. No matter gow much I agree with my brothers ideas of becoming a realm more akin to your own, we will need significant economic prowess for the rest of Westeros to accept us. How about us sending you three squadrons, one of raiders one of archers and one of infantry each to help you out, and you may cover some of that cost, would 1200 dragons be acceptable to you, to cover parts of the expenses associated with an army this size?"
Yoren asks.

She listened to him carefully, not interrupting, taking in his proposal. However, she did not feel she could make an agreement of such a cost just on the hoof, and so, as much as she would have wanted to say yes, she had to play for time.

"
I understand your reticence to take your men away from their homes long-term. It is helpful to clarify your intent though, so I thank you for your answer. I would like to consult with my advisors before giving you an answer, which I'm sure you will understand. Perhaps we could arrange to discuss your proposal further tomorrow, in a more appropriate setting for business?"

[Yoren longshore]

Yoren nods:"
this will allow me to see your beautiful face again, so we have an agreement, should we discuss it at noon, over a meal?"

[Loreia]

Yoren looks at this woman, baffled by her willingness to deal with ironborn. He quickly regains his composure and sets to negotiate.

It is difficult for Loreia to refrain from expressing her own bafflement and petulance, but she manages, however visible it may be.

Following Corrine's response to a meeting, she comments, "
It seems the leaders of House Longshore wish to involve themselves in the affairs of other houses, one way or another."
To Yoren, she adds, "
Is that wise, offerin' troops you don't yet command? MIghtn't it be more prudent to hold off on such maneuvers until you've inherited the seat of your house?"

[Yoren longshore]

Yoren turns towards Loreia: "
My father wil have few qualms about sending the troops, given the right incentives. Us iron born have been raiding for generations, and now that the wars have stopped, we have soldiers just sitting around the castle drinking and creating problems. My father would love to give them a chance to prove their mettle against more dangerous foes than their beer kegs."
Yoren smiles: "
my father would love to show Longshores military capacity again on the battlefield."

[Loreia]

There is a pause as flat as the look she gives him. "
You're a patient man, m'lord, if not a humble one. I can appreciate the quality of either, in that you continue to humor me."
She asks frankly, with hint of doubt, "
Do you really think you can change the practices of your kinsmen? End the reign of the Drowned with the reign of the Red?"

[Yoren longshore]

Yoren smiles: "
I am a patient man, but I could wait until the sun sets in the east and still not having convinced the ironborn."

He pauses: "
in short, no, I will not be able to change their ways. To speak more clearly, my hope is to tell them the truth, and then let them see the logic in it themselves. I will not force it upon them, but I will put the thoughts in their head that they may be slightly off target, and hopefully they will consider it themselves. If you take a tree and plant it in soil, it will stay for a while, but it will soon wither and die. However, if you plant an acorn seed you may wait fifty years and see that it has become a tree, majestetic in its splendour."
Yoren nods: "
iron born are like this tree, if I show them the truth, it will wither, however, if I give them a seed of truth, they will find it for themselves. "
Yoren looks at Loreia, clearly happy with his own words.

[Loreia]

Loreia isn't. "
Let's assume they can be persuaded. You'll have to do more than plant if you want your ideas to take hold. Water, and sunlight. You'll have to train them to accept a new way. While some'll listen, others'll bare their blades. If you want your house to turn from their practices, you'll be ready to have them put down, 'cause you'll have to. And it'd be no more than they deserve."

[Yoren longshore]

"
Sunlight and water will be needed, but the sunlight is what banishes the darkness of ignorance from their souls, water is what will quench their thirst for knowledge."
Yoren puts up his hands: "
Blood will be shed if anyone attempts to spill the blood of believers, but this will not solve the conflict. You corner an ironborn and he will rather die than surrender, however, if you give him the options of truth or lie, he will pick the truth. This truth is what I deliver. They will come to grips with reality, and hopefully the seeds of a new way will not have to be watered in my blood."
He looks a little sad. "
Alas my blood has already been spilled."
He is clearly talking about his brother: "
I hope that that will be the last blood to be spilled..."

Yoren turns with a hopeful look at Loreia: "
have you considered what I told you before you knocked me out cold?"

[Loreia]

Loreia shrugs. "
Somethin' about each faith bein' a seed of truth?"
She glances in Ellie's direction, concerned about continuing with an impressionable adolescent present. "
Can you...refresh my memory?"

[Yoren longshore]

Yoren chuckles: "
after that hit you gave me I believe that you should be the one to remember our conversation."
Yoren sighs: "
I am a generous soul, I'll refresh your memory. We may start with the seeds of truth. There are numerous religions out there. They are all remnants of an earlier time, when people were too simple to understand the nuances of R'hllor- or the red god, as you called him. People back then were therefore given simpler explanations that they could understand. Now, certain people around the world has been rewarded for their wit with revelations from R'hllor. These people are now trying to explain to us simpler men and women the true way of the world. The truth is that R'hllor is pitted against The Great Other, also known as darkness, for controll of our earth. All men may helpin this battle, and this is why I spread this knowledge, so that more people may help in this battle."
Yoren suddenly seems self-conscious and reddens. "
Did I speak too long? My teacher told me that that was my biggest flaw when explaining the world."

Ellie watches the conversation between ironborn and northern woman. Then looks to Corrine shrugging her shoulders to say boring.

[Lady Corrine Marsten]

Corrine gives Ellie a look of concordance. She addresses Yoren first;


"
My Lord Yoren, I take my leave now, but I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at noon. Until next time, Loreia. I wish you a pleasant day."


She curtsies, and makes her way out of the Sept, giving Ellie a little nod to indicate she may follow if she wishes.

Ellie smiles pleasantly to Yoren and Loreia, curtsying politely. "
It was very nice to meet you both. A good day to you."
She leaves on Corrine's heels.

When a safe distance away she sighs. "
I thought I might fall asleep. Is that what being in charge is all about?"

[Lady Corrine Marsten]

"
Much of it, yes. Exchanging pleasantries with people, rarely saying what one means. The subtleties often go over my head, but it is necessary in many situations. I suspect they may have been flirting,"
she muses with a wry smile as they walk down the steps of the Sept.
