Exactly. Poor choices have come back to burn him, literally.

Look out for redemptive/fitting death scenes and NPC reaction tomorrow.
Gratified to see Addam was at least remembered, albeit as the jerk he was.
I suppose it means he achieved something as an NPC - at least you felt something for him. Indifference is the worst result.

I think Dunstan would want to try and save someone. Dunno who else we're missing?
Anyway, Forrest Frey is the cousin of Benjen and Floreta, and since he looks like four or so years from now, probably below 30 now.

Several people haven't posted, but such is the nature of PbP. They can gain glory from participation, but as noted in the event, the bodies have hit the floor now.

start=100#p62327 - Daveth Coldbrook's excellent summary of the evidence against Maester Arran

t=2079&
start=100#p62337 - Maester Arran's confession (trimmed a bit, as in my notes he goes in to his backstory and motivation a bit more, but the Coldbrooks had already discovered it and Daveth remarked on it, so it would have looked weird to repeat the point)
He committed an atrocity, but from a desire to end suffering and is a chained maester.
Unpicking the mystery is only part 1. Deciding the appropriate punishment is the hard part.

Honestly I feel a little bad for him. After all, he was only guilty of misogyny. And being butthurt.

NOT talking about Arran. Should have quoted.Septon Arlyn wrote:I think she was talking about dyana's challenger
I don't know what to do with Arran. He wanted to help, but why didn't he just advise his lord, or Myles, to send people to deal with this? He somehow knew what was happening. I would like to know whether he acted on impulse, or if he pleaded with his lord/regent to act. After all, that is his duty as a maester. Either he acted rashly and condemned an entire village, or he was pushed to it by his lord's/regent's neglect.
He must be punished, and I agree that he should die, but should we condemn his behavior as rash with no further scrutiny? We should determine the answers to the above now at the assembly. If he felt like there was nothing else he could do, he would need an appropriate witness, or evidence(such as a journal), before we start pointing the finger.
We need to roll Awareness(Empathy) cranked to 11 versus Arran. Not sure if, given the situation, if we could unilaterally divide assists and coordination among the one or few present who are the best at it. We didn't come to this assembly all together, thus we most likely couldn't assist/coordinate with characters from other houses.
Regardless, our most appropriate response right now is to have him locked up somewhere while we figure out what to do with him, whether we've agreed on a suitable punishment in the meantime or quietly tabled it for later.

Re: Game Discussion
You know, I don't think his motive really plays into this much.
He might have been motivated out of a twisted sort of compassion, but mass murder is still mass murder. You don't get brownie points or sentence reductions because you 'were only trying to help.'

I'm agreeing that he should die. Just about the only thing is that it's a shame to waste a Maester, those guys are expensive. And the watch never had enough Masters

They'd be nuts to ever trust him in their ranks though. Literally nuts. Lip-bobbling, gobbledegoo-speaking, nutcases.

Re: Game Discussion
Not sure whether Blackbuckle was a Hamlet (20-1000 people) or a small town (1000-4000 people).
Most villages run from 300-700 people. That's quite a stack of corpses.
Arryn could be sent to the Wall.
I am fairly confident he would not make it.

Re: Game Discussion
I like the idea of stripping him of his chains as a formality before sentencing him. There might be a representative of the Citadel under the royal banner. Or, failing that, we can simply send a raven. In a few days we should get a reply, or a representative in a week, when it would become part of the epilogue and in which case Reader would tell us whether we could have him stripped of his chains in advance of a reply.

Re: Game Discussion
We know being stripped of your chain is possible from the novels (Qyburn), so I'd consider it a formality if the investigators press for it. As Loreia suggests a raven can go to Oldtown and back between now and the epilogue.

Revised description of my dog in my Cast entry. The intent from the beginning was that he looked similar to a badger by color and stripe, and I hope that this is now all the more so after my revision.

Re: Game Discussion
It's really come to something when the voices for clemency are from Ser Theomore and a crazed fire worshipping priest.
Interested to see the fate of our maester, and for once I just get to sit back and watch.

well he was caught so he must not have been THAT good

anyways, Septon Arlyn is deeply disturbed by blackbuckle, not quite willing to poison him, but it would not take much to convince him. (TN 12)
a simple death by sword, that is were he is sitting now so its the easiest to convince him of (TN 9)
where as granting him clemency of going to the wall, a much more difficult decision to argue (TN 15)
one which gets the most DOS gets his swing vote :;
