We're all getting too hung up on modern notions of justice rather than those in play in the setting.

Still, Baelon's pretty handy in a swordfight and has the tactical advantage. Destiny may take a hand too. Let's not count the plucky Lord Drakeson out yet.

This is to some extent about how you present this and punish the maester in the final treaty: try to preserve confidence in maesters (real-politik) or let true justice be done publicly?

Nathan got that sinking feeling he always got when something bad was about to happen.

He thought it was a Maester too. Specifically, he thought it was Maester Arryn. He had been investigating quietly to try and verify if that were true. The last thing he had wanted was a public display. If it became common knowledge, it would be a massive blow to the Citadel and serious situation across all of Westeros. If the Lords suddenly got it in their heads that Maesters could not be trusted, it might shift the very foundation of society.
