Re: Game Discussion
Hi all,
I have had several PMs the last few days concerning Bartheld political business. Thats understandable since I have been the OOC driving force behind House Bartheld since the beginning of the game.
However, I need to point out that we have a player that is now acting as Lord Davain Bartheld, and rightly many of the requests made to me should now go to him.

Whoa. WHOA
Wait a second!
Where did my post in Remembering the dead go??
I had a post there! I did really well!
Reader, is there a way you can check on that?

Ah, I see. LOL
There's two threads. Oh man, it's too early for this. Nevermind. All's well. I was checking the wrong Remembering the Dead thread.

Hehehe...my one big regret this story is that my IC reason to have a scene with you sort of evaporated at the Assembly. I'd really like Gwyn and Nathan to meet sometime.

While not particularly fair, as Baelon's wife you will probably be splattered with the fallout of Nathan's opinion of him. While Nathan has never met Baelon (and didn't even in the assembly thread where he arrived late, gave grandiose speeches and stormed out), his opinion of the Lord is very tarnished by the fact that he is Black (not really a big deal), supported Fendrel as the leader of House Bartheld (a much bigger deal) and comes off (to a 16 year old) as an arrogant pompous dick.
Also, he will assume you want something, because 99.9% of the time that is the reason any noble seeks him out (including Corrine.)

Sad but true. Hence the PBP nature. Septon Arlyn actually really likes nathan, even if he is mildly afraid of him now lol. However 99% of the actions they have had have been revolving around Septons Arlyns need for XYZ. I think that the commoners thread at riverrun was the closest thing to a platonic reaction that the septon has had with him. Which, from the steady stream to people that kept delivering notes to him, the septon assumed (correctly) that Nathan was the man with the answers.

Re: Game Discussion
One of the reasons Nathan loves Ser Jon Roxton so much is that the man has never out-right asked him for anything.
The reverse is actually true, although I think Ser Jon has benefited as much from the relationship as Nathan has.

Baelon supported Fendrel? Huh! I remember liking Davain better...but of course, who we supported may not have been who I personally thought would be a better Lord.
The reason Gwyn was going to take Nathan aside was to give him the inside scoop on the poison in the well, in hopes of getting his assistance in investigating it further.
As it turned out, that became obsolete. So...yeah.
Beyond that, I suppose she'd still be interested in meeting him just to meet him, but I don't have any real business to discuss.

Re: Game Discussion
That seems a little unfair. Corrine would totally have spent actual social time with Nathan, agenda-free at Riverrun, and while he was at Hartshorn. She genuinely likes him. It just hasn't been done as an 'onscreen' thing, as there's the expectation of threads having to 'do' stuff. As for the current story, socialising is just not really an option.

I am actually a fan of the idea that there should be threads that only does character development. Though as a player behind politically active characters, my experience is that it is difficult to find time for those.

I completely agree that there should be character debelopment threads, and I do try to have them, but some players dislike them. I recall even yourself criticising Ben &
Corrine's character threads.

Well, I agreed to express my personal support of him, but it had more to do with arranging for troops for the clan war than it did with any real thought about who would make the better lord, or who had inheritance rights, or anything like that. We had agreements with both sides, so that we could be sure to get troops no matter whom ended up in charge... but done so carefully so that we could live up to both agreements, too. Politics and pragmatics - ugly, perhaps, but what can you do?Gwyneth Drakeson wrote:Baelon supported Fendrel?
From what (very) little Baelon knows of Nathan, he has a similarly distorted view: that Nathan is ambitious, overreaching, leeching off of Ser Jon, and has remarkable delusions of grandeur and self-importance.Nathaniel Mason wrote:and comes off (to a 16 year old) as an arrogant pompous dick.

Dear, I am not talking about our relationship now. However, I think it is a fair characterization of our first meeting.
And really, why would a Lady of Corrine's standing even consider approaching someone like Nathan unless there is something he can do for her or a skill he has that she needs to accomplish a goal. Why would any noble?
My comment was not a criticism.
Baelon wrote:From what (very) little Baelon knows of Nathan, he has a similarly distorted view: that Nathan is ambitious, overreaching, leeching off of Ser Jon, and has remarkable delusions of grandeur and self-importance.
Ambitious, definitely. Overreaching, probably. Leeching of Ser Jon, not really. I am far wealthier than he is. :8-): Delusions of grandeur and self-importance? Absolutely. Perhaps Baelon's view is not that distorted after all.
Although, it might be interesting for people to learn that Nathan has not been paid a copper for any of the work has done for either House Bartheld or House Marsten. (Having his expenses covered is not quite the same thing.) An interesting wrinkle for a whore.
Baelon wrote:...and that's Lord arrogant pompous dick to you.
Of course, My Lord.
To be fair, you are not alone in the 'Lord arrogant pompous dick' category... and unlike most of your contemporaries, he doesn't give two shits that you are a bastard.

My answer to why would a noble like Corrine bother with a commoner is because she's a soft-hearted weirdo (by Westerosi standards).

Caring for commoners is one thing. Unusual, but not unique.
Socializing or befriending commoners would be cause for substantial comment.
Socializing or befriending commoners like Nathan without justifiable reason? Scandalous.
No matter how good friends you and Nathan are, he would hold you to the fiction, if only for your sake.
He understands the limits and requirements of power very well.

I was just trying to explain that her affection is genuine, and, for good or ill, she is a bit blind to the implications because of it.

It's a little amusing that there's the perception that Blacks inherently support Daemon. Corrine is only Black because she supports Rhaenyra. She doesn't like or support Daemon at all.

And some blacks are pro Daemon and could take or leave Rhaenyra, seeing her as a means to an end. Greens potentially more united around tradition? On both sides it's worth looking for gaps to exploit.
