[D6, MM] Confessions of a justified warrior (Dulvers)

Ser Tyron Blackwood tramped towards the Dulver encampment, accompanied by a small knot of loyal followers.

The panther-like knight dismounted, and called out to the Dulver sworn swords for them to take him to Septon Arlyn.

"
I come here to confess my sins and lay bare my conduct in the eyes of gods and men,"
said Ser Tyron frankly, the words more a challenge than a meek surrender. His men were either well briefed of his plans or too well drilled to show surprise or consternation at their captain's announcement.

[Reader]

Septon Arlyn arrives at the camp of the Dulvers, his progress as slowed by the women whom he had rescued rushing to greet him, as well his injuries from the day before. After he spoke with some soldiers and told them to provide food and a safe escort back to their homes, he finds his way to the pavilion placed to the left side of the main pavilion. He enters and into a tent with some of the injured from the fighting a few days before. He let out a prayer to the Warrior, thanking him for ensuring that all of the men and the boy's from the Dulvers forces would be returning to their comrades. Walking to his workbench he opens his maesters toolkit and pulls out a vial of milk of the poppy. The Septon frowns as he he sakes the vial, seeing that he is down to his last few doses of the white chalky substance. In between my injuries and the amount of medication that I gave last night, I should be thankful that I have any left at all. Then the Septon unstoppers the vial and pours a small bit into the bottom of a small cup. Swigging back the substance he feels the bitter tart stuff slide down his throat, He shutters mildly at the taste. I don't understand how people could get addicted to this vile stuff.

He then follows the substance by pulling down some dark red wine and pouring it into the same small cup. Septon Arlyn then drinks it down, feeling the familiar bite and burn as it washes the Milk of the Poppy down his throat. Sighing slightly he then ventures out, looking for Terren Dulver and Ser Tymon Lannister. He finds them quickly and informs them of what Luecian and he found in Raventree hall, and seeks for them to join him in questioning the Blackwood Knight.

Terren joins Septon Arlyn and the others, ready to commence the interrogation.

[Septon Arlyn]

Septon Arlyn clasps the young Dulver's shoulder, noting the determination in the young man's eyes. "
The seven will be with us, Terren, and we will find the truth of his crimes. I know we must question your cousin, but we do this under the name of the kings banner. If we do well I will tell your father of our success here."
He gives the young man a playful grin.

"
I will also let the millwrights daughter know of your bravery on questioning this fearsome knight."
And he gives the young man a sly wink.

[Terren Dulver]

Terren smiles earnestly at the Septon. “As convincing as always Septon, still you are the one who has shown true bravery as of late, rescuing women from bandits.” A look of grim determination appears on Terrens face. “It is always difficult to deal with such matters when family is involved, but I will not let that get in the way of our interrogation”

[Septon Arlyn]

Septon Arlyn begins to laugh but then has a swift intake of breath, as his rib injury bothers him. "
Don't get me wrong boy. I did what I had to in order to rescue those women, but that does not mean that it was with the wisdom of the crone that I acted. It was the warrior that guided my hand that day, and the strangers pride from being drunk on the victory from the night before. That foolishness almost cost me my life. Listen to your elder brother and the man at arm's Ser Garred. For they know their art of battle, just as you know the art of the courts."

[Luecian LongBow]

Luecian walks in and nods respectfully to both Septon Arlyn and Master Terren before moving to the back of the tent. His intent is to only listen and observe the knight's words and confirm his own findings.

[Septon Arlyn]

"
Speaking of a great warrior! "
declares Septon Arlyn, "
here is Luecian Longbow himself! He killed a man in the shadowy dark of the cave only two nights previously, then before that killed one of the great shadow cats, protecting Lady Corinne in the process. Then the day before that, he fought off four bandits by himself, saving my helpless hide in the process. A warrior to be sure, but with the wisdom of the crone whilst hunting to be sure as well!"
Septon Arlyn beams at the Archer, who was sitting at the side of the tent.

[Tymon Lannister]

Ser Tymon walks into the tent and joins Septon Arlyn and the others, ready to begin the inquiry.

[Luecian LongBow]

"

declares Septon Arlyn, "
here is Luecian Longbow himself! He killed a man in the shadowy dark of the cave only two nights previously, then before that killed one of the great shadow cats, protecting Lady Corinne in the process. Then the day before that, he fought off four bandits by himself, saving my helpless hide in the process. A warrior to be sure, but with the wisdom of the crone whilst hunting to be sure as well!"
Septon Arlyn beams at the Archer, who was sitting at the side of the tent.

Septon your words be as kind and generous as yer own nature be. With the Seven's blessing and me own skill, I been able to help out here and there. I would be saying few are braver then yer own self in running into trouble for the benefit of another eh."

[Septon Arlyn]

Septon Arlyn smiles at the Archers kind words, "
Aye, I guess we both be gambling, although you simply be a gambler of coin whilst I be gambling my safety. So far the Warrior has seen me through, I'm just glad that the stranger and father have decided that I have more work here yet to do."
Seeing Ser Tymon enter the tent the Septon smiles. "
I hear that you are arraigning to become brothers-in-lae with Terren here, and last knight you showed some heroics in protecting the Heir of House Dulver, another future brother-in-law of yours Ser Walton. I'm glad that you where there to help him, and that no more injuries occurred."
A moment of concern for the young knight, "
Did you manage to make it through both incidents without injury? If you did suffer a wound or injury make sure you come see me, I have some experience with such matters and am more then willing to assist you."

[Septon Arlyn]

"
Lueican, I heard from Lord Benedict that he found I cave near penny tree that he belives contains a beast of some sort. He also thinks that there appears to be some sort of clues revolving around that mystery there. Do you think that we can pull a few men together and track down the beast and remove it? It may provide some safety to the small folk and their cattle and sheep as well, from the descriptions of the bones surrounding the cave area."

[Luecian LongBow]

"
I'm sure it could be arranged Septon Arlyn, tis just the sort of thing I would likely not be minding at all. If you be knowing the general area, I can try to track the right spot down and take a look later today"
With a light chuckle he adds, "
Meself surely do not be one known to turn down a hunt of any sort."

[Tymon Lannister]

Ser Tymon turns to Septon Arlyn and says "
Septon, I would appreciate you taking a look at my shoulder where I was wounded during the fight that Ser Walton and I had with the fanatics in the cave."
He chuckles and says "
It was not that they were that skilled, it was that there were so damned many of them."

[Septon Arlyn]

"
Come here and let me see what your wounds look like and I will get you patched up, Here is some milk of the poppy to help ease your pain."
He states, pouring a small amount into a cup. He sets to work cleaning the injury, applying a salve he then bandages the injury, as it was not too deep and just needed a good cleaning to prevent the rot.

With that I think that everyone is ready, Let us go see Ser Tyron, and find out what he has to say for himself."

[Septon Arlyn]

Septon Arlyn exits through the tent flaps, into the chilled midmorning air. The light was shining through some of the could's, a light mist covering the earth and the knights armor. A well kept square of House Dulver's sworn swords surrounded the knight and his retainers, curious to see what was going to happen, a few small children mingled in the crowd, peering between the soldiers form's, the low murmur from the women in the camp, as well as various other small folk, pressed behind the soldiers square in a crowd, wishing to see what was happening.

A small smell of horses, dirty men, and campfire wafts into the clearing and assaults Septon Arlyn's nose. Stepping over a small puddle the Septon was quite a comical site, his bright red robes and jovial form a stark contrast to the powerfully built knight, mounted on his heavily muscled dresitier.

"
Good Ser Tyron, it is a pleasure to see you hear today. I was actually just about to come find you to ask you some questions. Would you rather we begin here or would you like to come into our tent and get out of the rain. I'm sure some bread and salt could be found for you."

My thanks Septon. House Dulver's tents seem as good a place as any to say my piece for Ser Kevan's peace."


He dismisses his men with a gesture, who wheel as one and depart in an impressive display of horsemanship and discipline, whatever misgivings they may have of the situation.

Once ushered in to the shelter of the Dulver encampment, Ser Tyron offers up the confession Ser Kevan has won from him by force of personality and ties of familial loyalty.

[OOC: Ser Tyron's confession takes in:
1) Responsibility for damaging Bracken lands by trampling salt in to their lands.

By the Old Gods and the New, what they've done much and worse to us that is graver."

2) Responsibility for helping plan the use of Darry lands to safely raid House Bracken from, noting that Ser Symon Blackwood was merely following his orders.

Ser Symon is a good man, but a follower of orders, not a man to give them. This plan was mine and mine alone, both he and my troops simply did as they were bid."

In both cases he insists responsibility stops with him and does not extend to Ser Myles or Lord Blackwood, neither of whom ordered him.

The blows against House Blackwood are mine alone, let no man take my achievements for me or whatever opprobrium the royal investigators deem necessary."


He'll acknowledge following the Blackwood "
Surprise attack"
against Bracken forces under a funeral flag of peace, but claims that this was a breakdown in command rather than a planned, dishonourable attack.

I'll not have a victory sullied by men claiming it was won against unprepared men. Besting a Bracken is best done where all can hear of it!"

[Septon Arlyn]

Septon Arlyn waits until the warrior finishes his tirade. Looking for any signs of deception in the knights words.

Feeling the knight has been speaking true so far, Septon Arlyn begins to ask, "
was it worth it? Was the starving of the small folk, the unrest caused by your actions, the death of your Lord and kin worth the damage you dealt to the Bracken's? Do you feel justified in all three harm you have caused? Are you pleased that your orders have brought along the death of so many Blackwood's? Are you pleased that young Benji now no longer has a father or mother? It's that what you wanted Ser?"
Septon Arlyn asks incredulously.

[Reader]

The Septon's words seemed to find little purchase with Ser Tyron

"
I have said my piece, done my part. I am a knight who keeps my word, but I owe you no more than what has been told."

[Terren Dulver]

Terren slight smile and friendly expression fade away and his eyes, normally calm and friendly, seemingly turn cold . As he look straight into the eyes of Ser Tyron with a piercing gaze, something Terren has never shown before.

As he calmly asks a single question to Ser Tyron. “Do you believe that what you did served your house?”

[Reader]

Ser Tyron's obstinacy in the face of the Septon's myriad of questions was an easy task, the man was laconic by nature and the Septon's long speech gave him time to prepare. Terren's pointed question left less time for consideration or stone-walling.

"
Yes. All I do, I do for House Blackwood and to defeat our foes in House Bracken."


The answer seemed sincere, it was at least rapid and firmly offered.

To Ser Tyron, the two were one and the same.

[Terren Dulver]

Terren will remain silent for an uncomfortable amount of time, still staring into the knight's eyes with his piercing gaze, then suddenly he looks to the Septon and says: “I have the answer I wanted, Septon , do you have any remaining questions?"

[Reader]

Ser Tyron is a warrior, tested on many battlefields and never found lacking in courage. Still, while not afraid or intimidated, he finds his near namesake's manner and certainty unsettling. He awaits being dismissed or interrogated further by the plump Septon.

[Septon Arlyn]

"
Yes, I do have one more. "
Septon Arlyn leans over to Terren and whispers. "
Ask him if Ser Myles offered him any ideas or orders. I don't think he did, but the knights answers have left enough room for doubt that I feel it must be asked, just so we can be sure."

[Terren Dulver]

Terren turns to the knight once more, his eyes still filled with a certain coldness, looking straight into the knight's eyes and says :” Did Ser Myles know about this?”
