Re: Tourney guests & Participants
My suggestion:
1. PC's and named NPC's makes status(reputation or tournaments) rolls, and set their preference for champion (possibly in order of preference) to challenge, specialty dice is tie-breaker, then re-roll.
2. If someone wants the same champion, the one with the lower roll can pick someone else or wait for the joust with the higher roll to resolve, unless they have an order of preference of challenges that makes the cabal go up.
3. Sprinkle in with the rest of the gang, Knights of Quality first, then the averages so that each lane sees the same number of matches. (Use dice to determine who gets average and who gets quality when we run out of the latter to fill the lanes)
Due to the relatively low number of PC's involved, this should work if the same player runs both sides in NPC vs NPC joust. And one of the more active players runs NPC opponents against other PC's. Make a thread for each lane and knock ourselves out?
I'd also suggest that aside from Jon Roxton who's probably of disposition to challenge the most formidable champion available (Lord Forrest, most likely), the other named PC's acts like Knights of Quality to fill out lanes that PC's doesn't claim.

Re: Tourney guests & Participants
I like this, but I'd like to have the quality mixed with the normals, so that the end does not just boil down to the worst jousts...
I can take charge of the champion of Yorens lane throughout, so when I get KO'd I take charge of the new opponent.

For the most part, I'd expect the knights of quality to have higher status than the average ones, but there could be rare cases of really good status 2 hedge knights, and there's probably quite a few more of status 4+ lords/heirs who are merely average with the lance. Like Dunstan.

Status 4 is expensive, I mean with all that boring book learning and stuff they could have been out in the practice yard ect

Re: Tourney guests & Participants
Going off the guest list, we have:
Ser Escobert Graen (champion)
Lord Rickart Nayland (champion)
Lord Jon Charlton of Hollyholt
Lord Miraz Erenford of Heronhurst
Lord Perrin Haigh of Broadmoor
Lord Dunstan Tullison (Reader can give me his stats, and I'll run him?)
Shall we perhaps determine that these guys comes with Agility 3, Animal Handling 3 (Ride 1), Athletics 3, Awareness 3, Endurance 3, Fighting 4 (Long Blades 1, Spears 1), Status 4* and rolls status with the rest of us? (aside from Dunstan having his own stats, well Jon Charlton's stats are here: viewtopic.php?p=11695#p11695).
*maybe 3 for Ser Escobert, not that it matters since he's a starting champion.
Then we could maybe add that 10 of the average knights have Animal Handling 4, 40 of them have Animal Handling 3, and 10 has fighting 5? Using some dice roll mechanism to figure out which comes where. Sprinkle in 2 Hedge Knights with Fighting 5, Animal Handling 3, 2 with Fighting 4, Animal Handling 4 and 6 with Fighting 4, Animal Handling 3? (Otherwise using Average Knight stats).
I should be able to keep track of everything and set up dice rolls to determine where these guys enter the party.

Perhaps all knights should get a bump up in level, given how much XP the PCs have? Even Yoren could offer many of those a good fight...

Re: Tourney guests & Participants
I kinda figure that the typical knight would have AH 3, but OTOH, that still won't make them offer much challenge against the PC's that did well in chapter 1.

Re: Tourney guests & Participants
They won't offer much of a challenge against the average PC if they only have AH of 3. Even when packed with a 4 fighting and a good shield they will still not hold the PC level, although then they could beat the nitwits that decide to enter with little experience
Fortunately there are a lot of them and quite a few has better stats too.

Re: Tourney guests & Participants
It's a local tournament, not a lot of quality challengers except for PC's, lords (not me though), and a handful of knights. So it's mainly surviving the hard few fights and then hoping a lesser knight doesn't get a lucky shot in.

Re: Tourney guests & Participants
Yeah, there's a point worth making that if all the average knights had AH 3, ride 1, a knight of quality facing off against 10 of those in a row, may well have to roll 20-ish stay in saddle rolls. Even if he has 96% chance of making each of them, the chance of making all of them is 44%, if he's clever and go braced, those odds improve to 85%
When the average knights has AH2, most of them will get wiped out on the first pass. So even if the quality guy fails the stay in saddle, his opponent is out cold.

Re: Tourney guests & Participants
Once we have the PCs and named NCs assigned, it would be a piece of cake for me to randomize the rest in such a way that evens out the numbers per lane. The important thing to do now is to get players positioned.
I myself intend to challenge Ser Escobar (or whatever his name actually is). I'll roll status when I get to my computer.

Interesting - I rolled a sequence, in order. 1,2,3,4. With all the rolls we make, it had to happen sooner or later.

Recap of first 5 challengers and their Status rolls:
Ser Kevan 12
Lord Benedict 15
Lord Baelon 12
Ser Escobert Graen vs. Lord Baelon Drakeson
Lord Ereth Redwain vs. Lord Benedict Marstenvs
Lord Rickart Nayland vs. Ser Kevan Lyras
Lord Forrest Frey vs. ?
Yoren Longshore vs. ?
We have 2 champions unchallenged, but I can see a lot of the average knights going for Yoren while the high quality ones might try for Lord Forrest if a PC does not.
I would bump Ser Escobert to a bit "
tougher"
. He is not much of a threat really but at least will do the "
Champion"
part better.
Agility 3, Animal Handling 3 (Ride 1B), Athletics 3 (Strength 1B), Endurance 3,
Fighting 4 (Long Blades 2B, Spears 2B), Status 3, Warfare 3

Re: Tourney guests & Participants
Yet to roll:
Davain
Tymon
Theo (primarily waiting on a debate with myself whether or not to buy more reputation dice which will of course matter here)
And if we are adding some other NPC's of high status as discussed in earlier post of mine:
: 4d6+2 13
: 4d6+2 19
: 4d6+2 20
: 5d6+4 29
So we have:
Dunstan 29 (Theo will attempt to make him go after the easiest target, like Yoren)
Niall Lucas 22
Perrin Haigh 20
Miraz Erenford 19
Corbin Celtigar 18
Glendon Goode 17
Wyll Bracken 16
Ben: 15
Jon Roxton: 14 (suggestion by me that he goes after the most glorious match, probably Forrest)
Jon Charlton: 13 (Probably preference for Dunstan due to chapter 1 stuff, if possible)
Kevan: 12*
Baelon: 12*
<
-This is where Theomore would like to come in.
Warrick Wheaton: 8
*Kevan and Baelon might need to roll tie-breaker.

Re: Tourney guests & Participants
Putting the lane lists together so far as we know them. I'm assuming that Dunstan will be swayed by Theo to go after Yoren (maybe he has some lingering annoyance at House Longshore for the off-hand accusation of tampering with the mines evidence that no one believed?). The randomization Kevan rolled for Jon Roxton put him in Lord Forrest's lane, so that fit perfectly with Theo's suggestion. Going random with the rest because it's just simpler that way and doesn't really matter much.
: 3#1d5 4 1 4
Lane 4 is a popular place! Well, the highest profile champion and the highest profile challenger (J.R.) so I suppose that would draw people in.
Also, no one wants to challenge the groom... maybe no one wants to run the risk of injuring him or worse at his own wedding. Well, the nameless horde has no such concerns.
Undeclared:
Benedict Marsten (15)
Theomore Tullison (??)
Mystery NPC (??) [maybe?]
I think it reasonable that Kevan and I should be allowed to switch lanes at this point, to keep it fair. We should wait until after Ben has declared and we know whether Theo will be declaring before or after us, though.
For the purposes of splitting up the nameless horde, I'll just fill in the numbers starting from quality down. We can randomize the order of the nameless ones and do some customization later, if desired. Remainders in each quality category will be assigned randomly to lanes tied for lowest #s. I've already filled in 9 of the 10 Knights of Quality, though they will probably shift around once we PCs are settled. As it stands the 10th KoQ would go to a random lane other than lane 4, as all the lanes are at 4 challengers except Lane 4 at 5 challengers. I'm not going to bother rolling it right now though as it will probably change.

This looks good! I think we made some good progress.
Yeah I agree, it is also more realistic that way. You would take your turn and challenge which ever champion you want. It would be strange to make a choice of a lane now without any knowledge of who will be the champion then.

Well, the tourney could be set up such that everyone declares their lanes before the first tilt - but we would still know who had signed up to the lists ahead of us. I actually like that format - it fits what we are doing OOC better, and it lets there be more speculation (read: betting).Kevan Lyras wrote:I think it reasonable that Kevan and I should be allowed to switch lanes at this point, to keep it fair. Re: Tourney guests & Participants
I guess I can put some names for the nameless at least. of course a PC that wishes to challenge my lane will take the place of any non important typical or quality knight. Also adding average knights to round up the first 6 matches of the day? That's about 36 jousters per day average so by Day 3 only 8 will be left.
Lane 1: Escobert Graen (Typical Knight with Animal Handling 3, and Strength 1B)
Miraz Erenford (19)
Glendon Goode (17)

with some names added to them, and what they are statwise next to their names.
