Admittedly, Andivar is the Seven's sanctified Chosen of the Warrior in Westeros... so yeah.. he's a beast.
But he is not the norm by any stretch.

I have been playing in and running a weekly game for five years now. (We trade off.)

Thanks very much.
It took no small amount of hunting and some frustrating photo-shopping, but I think I did quite well and am pleased with the result.
Nathan is now about 18-19. Even he can't look twelve forever.

23 per DoS... egads. And I thought that getting 10 per DoS one-handed (without Massive) as a starting character was bad.
Criticals in general fit the tone of the world.
However, the fact that this particular critical system doesn't fit the tone of the world for me. As previously stated, it makes lighter armor more effective for combat than heavy armor. That makes no sense whatsoever! I also dislike that it discourages tactical fighting - combat becomes much more about rolling as many dice as possible as often as possible... which is already quite present in the system.
If we were playing in Essos, maybe - but having knights wearing next to no armor so they can Acrobatic Dodge their way into 20+ combat defense to be crit-proof? No.... and I'm the sort of guy who plays high-dex low armor characters in my d20 games. Actually, my first SIF character was a half dornish merchant-prince that spent most of his adult life in Braavos...even without Acrobatic Dodge he had a 20 something combat defense. In friendly sparring, he beat the plate-wearing knight PC 3 times out of 4 (criticals used, and no armor houserules). I had fun, but it didn't feel like Westeros.

FedEx, I greatly enjoy the costuming. The restraints of the director used and not showing the Nobles and play it was quite refreshing

Battle sequences and political Intrigue or pretty good as well. It kind of is helping me with my Game of Thrones withdrawal :-)

Watched some of it, then had no time for TV and haven't gotten back to it.
I was watching Vikings at the same time, kind of gave me whiplash trying to go back and forth in the timeline like that.

I only got two episodes into the Vikings, since our alleged heroes were clearly the bad guys.

I didn't see it in terms of 'good' and 'bad' - more a clash of cultures, and both cultures have beliefs and practices that conflict with modern values.
Thinking about it though, for the most part the main characters are the 'good' guys... or at least are less bad than their enemies. Most of the time.

Ragnar was enough of a horrible person to me that I couldn't care about him or want him to succeed.

Yeah, I definitely cared more about other characters than Ragnar. He annoyed me greatly. Actually, all of the characters annoyed me at some point or another. They are not heroes, they are people, strong but flawed individuals. The interesting part to me is seeing how those strengths and flaws interact with each other - both the intrapersonal struggles and interpersonal relationships. It's not so unlike Shakespearean characters, really - neither all good nor all bad.

It does not bode well for the future of westeros that our newest Character: Kayden Douhun has the initials K/D, but still: Welcome

I appreciate that you like the show, but I think comparing it to Shakespeare is giving it way too much credit.
Also, the historical inaccuracies and anachronisms are maddening for those that care about it.

I only meant to compare the style of the story to Shakespeare, not the quality. It's definitely not that good!
Just meant that it's not a "
good guys"
vs "
bad guys"
story, and the characters are more human than heroes.

Fair enough. Apologies for my misunderstanding.
I see your point, and agree. I just personally need at least one petson I can care for/identify with/support. Like how Samwell and Brienne keep me going in GoT.
