Re: Mechanical discussion
wait, wait, wait... So, having Cunning 2, I can add another 2 dices to disguise roll over there?

Disguise is deception, but yeah.

Re: Mechanical discussion
Deception is 2, Cunning is 2, so if Disguise is Deception, then Disguise is also Cunning. or something

I was just using cunning as a example. I think it calls out deception with the spec disguise.
And thanks for the clarification wasn't sure if I got to keep my roll. Still wasn't certain after reading the rule book.

Re: Mechanical discussion
So VPs. Can I get a explanation as to what they do here? I have read through the book and see they are tied to complex intrigues. I am not currently aware of any that i'm a part of so would that mean if I earned a VP I wouldn't be able to keep it? Also will VPs be earned exclusively by picking a side between the greens and blacks?

Re: Mechanical discussion
In the carnival event, VP here means VP in a complex intrigue, presumably tied to personal goal, but I suppose it might be donated to house objective also?
Could mean green/black point in some other places though.

A good question. Each character has a "personal goal", maximum 1 per story. It is player determined with Reader approval. Typically it will take some number of Victory Points to achieve, with VPs awarded for things like getting training, doing research, participating in fights/war battles, and really anything else appropriate to goal. Goals are typically typically a benefit, but other things are possible too. Basically, it's a way to guide your character development through in-game activities. They are similar to House Objectives, but are personal to each character - and that can lead to interesting conflicts and choices. What is best for your own personal goal may not be what is best for your house objective, or for the event you are participating in, etc.
Given that it is awarded under the title "Personal Ambition" I suspect it is meant for personal goals. I suppose Reader might allow it to be used for something else, but I suspect that would probably be on a case-by-case basis.Theomore Tullison wrote:In the carnival event, VP here means VP in a complex intrigue, presumably tied to personal goal, but I suppose it might be donated to house objective also?

I think Daveth means G/B point rather than VP in this post though?

Daveth Coldbrook wrote:Unlike at the tourney at Riverrun, we're allowing preparation. Because this event is designed to be welcoming for everyone, overtly political songs will be docked points.
Knowledge TN (9) to select an appropriate song and memorize it well enough to perform. +1B per degree of success, -1D for failure.
Persuade (Charm) TN (12) to actually sing it.
1st: 20GD, +1 TP
2nd: 10GD
3rd: 5GD
Can I assume that the 'take your time' for preparation is for the Knowledge roll only? Not the actual Persuade (Charm) to sing it? Can you clarify what a TP is?

Re: Mechanical discussion
Maybe. Though I think those count as extraordinary items, which likely require something like a personal goal or downtime DoS to be made available. It was also a possible reward from black/green mechanics of chapter 1 as I recall.

Sounds like extraodinary rank, but never saw discussion on that. Walton is not an archer, anyway

Re: Mechanical discussion
Dragonbone needs to be earned in play like Valyrian steel. Pleased to see various story threads pay off here.
Some PCs now have Valyrian daggers, a sword was returned to House Kreigar and bows have been won and gifted. Offseason work, intrigues and so on have led to these. Surprised none of you have bushwhacked Ser Warrick Wheaton for his. That said, a hedge knight that manages to keep hold of a Valyrian steel sword must be pretty special...

I'm guessing extraordinary armor is in the same category?

Look forward to taking on a man you know nothing about with the wits to keep hold of such a prize. Your funeral.

Pffft, you just want to discourage us making more work for you...
Anyhow, how he got it and keeps holding on to it is more interesting than the sword itself.

Re: Mechanical discussion
- wrong thread:
I am loving the chatter between masked individuals at the carnival! Dancing on words behind masks in 'ze grande game' inspireds confidence in the guests and fits people more than they realize. Reads like a visit to a ball in Orlais if the masks were truly meant to hide identity! Sans the open flaunting of flesh and sex.
I posted this same thing in this thread after realizing I had posted it originally in the wrong thread: https://dragonsdance.rpg-board.net/t3095p325-game-discussion#94240
I thought I deleted this post, I'm sorry.

Re: Mechanical discussion
At what rate to (a) Destiny points, and (b) "once per day" things recover, on here?

Re: Mechanical discussion
Destiny points - recover at the end of the story, sometimes with an interim refresh if there's a sunny day etc (for a weird, Lord of the Rings style crossover).
"Once per day" - normally 1/offseason or once per day as previous stories were dailies. However, this time it's once per phsae.

Re: Mechanical discussion
Oof. Okay. If I used a "once per day" and a Destiny Point, I had a 50% chance of getting the +1 glory from the Prayer event.
Don't think I can afford to lose both things, though, not when it has odds that crummy of working.

Glory is not all that useful anyway. +1b to a roll that you have to declare beforehand or +1 Stat Point to a House (usually wealth). Nathan gives them away as wedding presents.
