Oh I like that, maybe a combination of the two where the Septon goes to get help and his father sends him out with his massive simpleton middle brother Brother who was hit in the head by a horse. (Think Hodor)

his eldest, a despicable schemer who is very involved with the shadowy elements around maiden pool. (Think Peter balish, only not as secretive)

And his father, a relatively good man, but gruff and unaffectionate. (Think jeor mormount)

The Septon requests their aid in tracking down the sell swords. After hilarious misadventures they eventually

A) actually uncover the sell swords, a small fight erupts, placing all of the Septon's family in danger

Or

B) the Septon's eldest brother uses this as an excuse to get rid of some of his competition. Small fight erupts.


As an epilogue to the story Septon will feel guilty over a few different outcomes.

A) family member (s) deaths

B) leaving the lands of his father in a morally bankrupt older son, or to a simpleton unfit to rule.

I think this would be an interesting test of the Septon's vows. Does he stay true to the Faith? Does he attempt to steer the house to a different fate? Or does he let the gods decide what happens to his house...

Hmm, it all depends.

I think it is more a matter of family approving of Arlyn's choice of becoming septon or not. It's the same thing as becoming maester, you give up your former family true, but I wouldn't use the word "
denouncement"
. There's former Tyrells and Lannisters among septons and maesters in the canon, so it all comes down to opinions.

Reader probably has written down where the raiders went. Definitely knowledge(streetwise) to search for them in Maidenpool. Various sneaky abilities (stealth, disguise, bluff) may be advised if you don't want to announce your search to those you seek.

Also a point worth considering will be who Arlyn's family is, are they merchants? nobles? Black and Green may also be less of an item, a recurring theme in GRRM is that people put family ahead of such things anyway (another is that people within families sometimes are nasty towards one another), and while the Mootons are black, most knights serving the Mooton's are probably happy to sit around and wait for the order to march without getting a personal stake regarding whether the banner they will be under is green or black.

Yeah, politics like green and black probably mean less to men-at-arms and such, than they do to lords and ladies. At the level of soldiers, it's just which band of 'other soldiers' you're being paid/commanded to try to kill.

True, but the Septons father is (cannon) so far a landed knight in maiden pool, I have house details I'm waiting for reader to approve of, as well as fleshing out their characters that also needs reader approval.

But the Septon's father is technically a landed knight, meaning that he might have a bit of political edge, but from the house history of house Qargle is quite beaten up so might not be too interested in larger politics as a whole lol.

Baelon, thanks for the wrap-up list. None of those things look like they should delay offseason threads starting, as none of those threads are plot critical/lethal.

- These abilities can be used once per event.
- They can also be used for house fortunes etc, but have to be marked against an event you're participating in.

Not nitpicking at all, understand need for clarity!

Everything with a subforum is indeed an event, as is any personal offseason (even if the events stretch over multiple days, lucky/BoTA are strong enough already).
