I am shocked, appalled, and hurt to be left out of the 'head-turning' club in the Wedding thread. So rude! Shoddy. Just shoddy.

Re: Game Discussion
Knowledge focus specialty, can anyone tell me what the purpose of this skill is? The text kinda confuses me as to its purpose. As far as I can tell you only have the bonus die for education, streetwise, and research. but the text says
Knowledge Focus Ability
You are an expert on a particular subject.
Requires Knowledge 4
Choose one area of expertise from the following: alchemy, architecture,
astronomy, geography, heraldry, history and legends, magic, nature, religion,
or underworld. You treat any bonus dice assigned to the specialty
as test dice.

So does that mean that I need to spend experience on gaining bonus dies for specific areas of concentration like religion before the knowledge focus becomes a useful benefit?

Re: Game Discussion
Eh, you at least need a proper description of that swan, young man, before you go around stealing the show :8-):Davain and Ayleth were next to arrive. Davain was dressed in a simple black tunic embroidered with a small, golden needle work around the sleeves with a cloak of crimson fashioned with a silver broach of a boar. A rough beard was starting to form in his face, evident that the young lord is attempting to grow a beard. While Lady Sofia and Gwyn might have caused a few heads to turn, the show was stolen by the "
swan"
he had locked arms with. Davain looked cheerful compared to his normally solemn, serious attitude.

Arlyn, what book do you use?
Because mine says that you treat your education specialties as test dice when answering questions within that area of expertise.

mine says using bonus dice from other skills.
For instance, heraldry uses breeding dice combined with knowledge

Re: Game Discussion
The errata'd chapter 5 has the wording that Arlyn posted.
I interpret that dice from whatever specialty the narrator as deemed appropriate to the test (most likely education or streetwise, but with the advanced actions Jorah has mentioned it could vary) would be test dice.
The advanced actions (or streetwise for Underworld) may be why they changed it from specifically "
Education dice"
as stated in the pre-errata version.
That's the charitable interpretation, at least.

Re: Game Discussion
Sounds like a ruling that should be taken to the mechanics thread.
I like the twist Baelon puts on Loreia's performance in the lists: spending destiny points at the expense of appearing tactless and brute-forcing seems appropriate.

Ah, okay.
Yeah, I'd interpret it as turning whatever specialty dices used for a knowledge test for learning (or determine what you know) about something within the area of expertise into test dice.

Re: Game Discussion
I was actually basing that on the ratio of attack roll vs. damage per DoS - relative to a Knight of Quality, your attacks are less skilled (lower attack dice) but more powerful (higher damage per DoS).Loreia wrote:I like the twist Baelon puts on Loreia's performance in the lists: spending destiny points at the expense of appearing tactless and brute-forcing seems appropriate.
Baelon may be being a bit harsh, but Loreia is a symbol now - and a target. If being a little harsh keeps you alive and makes you a better symbol, so be it. :;

I'm going to let Ayleth make that discription.

Yes, well. It so happens that nobles are pretty, since the ugly girls gets thrown into the septry and the pretty ones gets to marry lords. Plus they bathe and wash, unlike the smallfolk. And they eat better, and live better, too.
Of course, Gwyn taking a knife to Ayleth's face would cut down on the nice and pretty bit.

What?! I would never do that! You insult me, sir!

I'd pay someone else to do it, obviously.

That would be kinda interesting, to have the marked benefit with the attractive. Would be a nightmare to work out in orokos but it would be interesting roleplay...

Re: Game Discussion
Orokos doesn't handle 'reroll X 1s' terribly well, and 'reroll 6s but only once' not at all.
Actually, that's not true. 7-1d6 is equivalent to 1d6, so 7-(1d6ro1) would be 1d6 with marked.
the tricky part is multiple such dice... you would want to keep the low dice, so use 'l' instead of 'k', and multiply the 7 by the kept dice.
7*Y - (Xd6lYro1)
So that covers marked. Attractive has all the problems we've noted previously (which is why we do it manually), so you would need to manually reroll any 6s rolled (which become 1s from the subtraction).
Ok, yeah, easiest just to do it manually with regular dice and not resort to my subtraction scheme. Sometimes the best application of math is to ignore it.

Wouldn't the easiest thing be, the two cancel out each other's benefit/drawback? :?

Unless you have already burnt the DP from marked it or earned it through game play.

Ayleth is the envy of many women wherever she goes, if her player has chosen the sample sheet or left her benefits untouched. Attractive, Charismatic, and Magnetic make her powerful in court by virtue of her good looks and ability to use charm to sway people. Status 5 certainly doesn't hurt. Ladies would be well in character for envy to drive their attitudes and behavior around and toward her.
