Re: Game Discussion
It's all about the support base.
Daemon didn't like that Rhaenyra was named heir, but very few was about to support him over Viserys' wish.
Then Aegon came along, and his mother wanted to make him king, as did his grandfather, to the point where the latter were kicked out of office, then he came back again. Hightowers (and by extent most of the Reach since Highgarden is pretty tame at this point) and Lannisters now support him, a few prominent riverlords (Tully, Strong) supports him, too. They've stacked the small council with his supporters, too.
All the rest is basically each side legitimizing their respective claims.

Re: Game Discussion
Thanks for the King Stephen link Daveth - we've actually got a number of books in the house on the period, I'll try to take a photo during the week.
We're well stocked as it was one of the modules in my fiance's history degree, here's a link to the reading list.
http://readinglists.glasgow.ac.uk/lists ... B95B1.html
Sadly I missed out on this (I'd dropped history for pure economics by the time we got to honours), but I'll try to read some of the stuff we've got in the house for ideas.

Take 2:
1: Coldbrook
2: Drakeson
3: Longshore
4: Redwain
5: Lucas
6: Tullison of Falling Stars
7: Tullison of Mountain's Reach
8: Marsten
9: Market Town
10: Darry
11: Bracken
12: Blackwood
13: Dulver
14: Bartheld
Market Town, Hartshorn and Mountain's Reach I placed based on their positions on the map in the chronicle starter, the rest I placed where I thought fitting. Kytleys doesn't matter so they're not on it.

Re: Game Discussion
I'd move Coldbrook and Drakeson both a bit westward. Remember that the chart on pg 100 gives us Northern houses tons of Land, so geographically larger fiefdoms. House Drakeson controls land from the westernmost bite to the Kingsroad. Different maps put the relevant geographic landmarks closer or further away, so I think we can say that it's not necessarily as big as it looks on that map. :;
):
Coldbrook lands should be on the other side of the Kingsroad.
Other than that it looks alright.

Well I had intended to be were House Tullison of Falling Stars was I even posted a page back or two with the map, I did build roads to connect to the kingsroad, so I would put me above House Tullison of Falling Stars, yet I guess I could change the fluff to fit the new placing to make it easier I suppose.

Re: Game Discussion
So I did some googling and found that there another game with House Bartheld that has them placed slightly to the left of Maidenpool. I thinks that works better because Bartheld has a toll and you can't exactly have put a toll on the Kingsroad, but travelers from the Norther parks of the realm who are traveling by land would then have to pass through Harthome on there way to Maidenpool

Re: Game Discussion
Many of our houses have tolls, and thus roads.... the presumption is that there are roads not marked on the map.
For instance there may be a road that splits from the Kingsroad and heads through that spot to Maidenpool.
Maidenpool and Harrenhal are considered to be in the Riverlands, Antlers is in the Crownlands. Bartheld is a Crownlands House, so it would make sense for it to be closer to Antlers than to Maidenpool.

Latest official events are up:
A Stricken Sea Snake - viewtopic.php?f=221&
t=2793
The Velaryon arrests - viewtopic.php?f=223&
t=2795
Slight mechanical tweaks might be coming to them soon - I left a notebook with some ideas at work.

Re: Game Discussion
Have my notebook back so tweaking the official events.
Main change - Velaryon arrests Warfare (tactics) check updated for my new risk/reward style and punishing success.
- The highest scoring player has one NPC from the opposing faction's relations towards them deteriorate significantly as a respectful enmity build.
- The lowest scoring player has one NPC from their faction's relations towards them deteriorate by one step due to doubts about their suitability for command (only triggers if ability check fails).
- Opponents list later tonight.
No major changes for Lord Velaryon's sickness event, so my memory was working for that at least.

A quick reminder to everyone that the Velaryon arrests event has various optional stages, with part 3 good for schemers. A few final tweaks coming (assist option on the healing Lord Velaryon one, combat opponents in the Arrests thread).

Opponents added to Velaryon arrests and extended the warfare roll to influence opponents faced and the "
Winning the peace"
roll to punish success and failure. Things are heating up in the capital - it's time to make more enemies.

Interesting "
butterfly effect"
of changing history: Prince Aemond isn't a completely untried commander at the outbreak of the civil war. Changing NPC stats a little post this offseason for him and others.

Which of course, is probably highly likely.

I was planning to teach Aemond that using his men as fodder and then move in for the kill with Vhagar when the Dornish are busy peppering the bait is a marvelous strategy that probably should work splendidly.

Plenty of room to have us be neighbors. I just went along with Baelon's suggestion of being between the Twins and House Longshore as making sense as you're taking a Longshore bride. Much of the same motivation would exist if Frey lands/bannermen are bordering Longshore lands though. Would House Longshore raid Freys if that means the lord's daugher/sister might end up on the chopping block for it?

The location you placed me in is fine just curious about the train of thought behind it, places me near House Nayland, Mallister, Frey, and Longshore, just now I have an excuse to get a coast perhaps.

Re: Game Discussion
IC maybe you shouldn't have, but OOC it was totally the right thing to do. Failure breeds story. This isn't an optimisation exercise.
Here's to you trying this, Leucian's failure at the funerals oratory and Lord Marsten deliberately attempting an offseason roll he had 2D in because it's what his character wanted to do.

2.5% chance of a roll that bad or worse.

Daveth can thank the Seven he spent a DP on the first roll.
Even I'm fed up making jokes about the curse of Castle Grenward.
I now firmly believe it is real.

True, but I made that roll for the wrong reason. I wanted Ser Maelor. It works well though as owing to the setup for the combat we have planned.

I'm waiting to see the bigger rolls pick, so that I can pick a named character (a secondary one).
