(Day 4, all afternoon) The joust (now complete!)
Please create a thread for your tilt, marking the day (four) and round (one).
Post your introduction, jousting stats and the approach you're using (aggressive, defensive, eyes fixed etc), I'll then do the same for the NPCs, followed by exciting rolls!
- All jousts are best of 3 tilts (lances broken first tiebreaker, then highest DoS wins. Lord Tully and Ser Fredryk Vance call ties beyond this).
Round 1 - Day 4
Athelstan Pyke - Ser Henry Marbrand
Ser Baelon Waters - Ser Kyle Crakehall
Ser Theomore Tullison v Lord Dougal Smallwood
Ser Benedict Blackthorne v Ser Medrick the Flea
Lord Dunstan Tullison v
Yoren Longshore v Ser Jaime Mallister
Ser Jorah Holt v Ser Heward Storm
Anvil Gloom Knight v Ser Erryk Grell
Ser Jon Cobb v Ser Arryn Vance
Ser Kevan Lyras v Ser James Darry
Ser Fendrel Bartheld v Ser Tom Piper
Knight of Stones v Ser Andrew Hawick
Round 2 - Day 4
Athelstan Pyke v Lord Forrest Frey
Ser Baelon Waters v Ser Eoric Tully, Lord Tully's heir
Ser Theomore Tullison v Ser Alayne Vance
Ser Benedict Blackthorne v Wyll Bracken
Lord Dunstan Tullison v Ser Garibald the Grey
Yoren Longshore v Lord Petyr Mallister [two Mallister draws in a row? Hmmm]
Ser Jorah Holt v Ser Harrold Darke
Anvil Gloom Knight v Ser Benjen Frey, who needs no introduction by now
Ser Jon Cobb v Ser Karl Fossoway
Ser Kevan Lyras v Ser Hugo Rivers, a hedge knight of ill-repute
Ser Fendrel Bartheld v Lord Owen Fossoway
Knight of Stones v Ser Addam Tarly, third son of a lesser branch of the Reach's noble families
- Jon Cobb and The Anvil Gloom Knight are provisional on them making it through round 1, but it was easier for my spreadsheet this way.
Round 3
Ser Theomore Tullison v Ser Torrhen Manderly
Ser Baelon Waters v Lord Manfryd Mooton
Ser Benedict Blackthorne v Lord Haig Bracken
Ser Fendrel Bartheld v Anvil Gloom Knight
Athelstan v Lord Petyr Mallister

Passive ride, health and armour rating. Sorry for not laying it out!

Maybe I'm being blind, but I can't find the rules for the approaches to jousting and the benefits of each approach. Is that in peril at kings landing?

[OOC: Oh yes, GoT edition. I don't have the first edition so wouldn't know if they are included there as well.]

If only one of our players had written an excellent guide to jousting. Many thanks to Baelon for this.

Re: (Day 4, all afternoon) The joust
Should I make a joust spectating thread? Or should I do multiple ones for the different time slots or individual matches?

No worries, tbh I need to spend Saturday morning:
- putting up the other big event (singing contest)
- putting links to the official events in the almanac
- posting the rumours

Re: (Day 4, all afternoon) The joust
No worries.
Because I love you all, here's the draft of the singing contest:
Both Princess Rhaenyra and Queen Alicent are great patrons of the arts, both women are well aware of the potential for statues, song and stained glass to sway their subjects.
Nominally, both women have put aside political differences to host an evening of song, but the reality is likely to prove different. An artfully chosen song, remembered correctly and delivered well can deliver a point as well as any speech.
A game is made of events, with participants free to choose a song, but selected from particular genres or historic periods according to the capricious audience's whims.
Participants: anyone, no limits per house.
Challenge
Knowledge TN (9) to select a politically appropriate song. The audience participation element (constantly shifting periods and genres) means someone else can't make this roll beforehand for you.
Cunning (Memory) TN (9) to recall the song properly as you perform it.
Persuade (charm) TN (12) - to sing in a moving fashion. If you've got qualities that you thnk should apply, please note them in your post and I'll rule on it. E.g. "
I have Mummer, I should have +3 to my roll"
.
Failing either of the rest two rolls still lets you attempt the final roll - you just can't quite select something to make the sharp political point you want, or forget a crucial verse etc.
Passing the Knowledge roll = +1B to Persuade roll, +1D if 2 DoS or better.
Passing the Cunning roll = +1B to Persuade roll, +1D if 2 DoS or better.
Consequences
Highest Persuade (Charm) roll +1 glory (whether or not all three tests passed)
Pass all three tests: +1 glory
Highest Persuade (Charm) score among those who passed all three rolls - +1 to black or green. [Anyone who fails either of the first two rolls can elect to sing an overt song in praise of Rhaenyra or Alicent and therefore still be counted in this category. This will be a VERY public show of support - it will bolster the morale of that side's followers if you sing well or win, but will possibly annoy both sides due to your lack of subtlety]

Millions of joust threads, so for initial rounds I'll mainly be posting mechanics and players have freedom to do flavour for both sides.

Now that we know (mechanics wise) the trial combat is playing out, I'm eager to shatter lances against a worthy foe!
