Gwyn goes and takes a seat next to Dunstan, opposite Theomore, and with renewed appetite start to eat.

Dunstan takes a set and puts his hands on the table.

In a booming voice he says to all the people present in the room

"
The marriage we have gathered here to discuss is off. Lady Gwyneth will marry another, for love. I have no quarrel with that and will not stand in their way. House Tullison and House Marsten will be brought closer together using different means, but our bonds will be tighter after this tourney as long as I am concerned."

Turning to Theo Dunstan speaks, his voice carrying an official tone

"
However, I learned all means must be utilized in order for our House to endure. Uncle, you have more experience in attending courts than any other member of our House. Ff you are keen on doing so, I would like to entrust you in finding a marriage opportunity for me, opportunity our House can benefit the most from"
his voice trembling a bit as he spoke, but, he did consider it necessary.

Baelon arrived just as Dunstan made his announcement.
Well... I guess that's been handled, then.

Pardon my slight tardiness - a prisoner escaped from the dungeon, and sped off on a horse. Ser Kevan and Lady Dyana gave chase, but as I did not have my horse with me, I could do naught but watch. The prisoner will have been caught by now, no doubt."

He looks for an open seat, but only sees one - at the end of the table next to Edmund, across from Lady Yve.
I wish I could have sat next to Gwyn... though perhaps it is for the best that I cannot.

Lord Dunstan, if you would like, I will accompany you to the pavilions of lords with daughters of marriageable age. Perhaps another lady will catch your fancy, and House Tullison can form bonds with two houses where it originally had but one. This evening after the joust, perhaps?"

Dunstan stands up to greet him.

When he proposed to escort him, Dunstan shaed of the notion, "
I appreciate the offer but there is really no need to do so. I will leave the matter in the capable hands of my uncle."

Thinking a bit he says, in a more serious manner of speaking

If you are inclined to contribute to this friendship of ours however, you could talk to the Prince about this future marriage of mine. If you have access to him, of course."

Theomore uses the more formal tone, addressing Corrine as if she indeed is the lady of her house, and not restricted by a certain regency. Lady Isobel would not give much consideration to such fickle things as teenage love in his estimation. "
While it is within your rights to retract this offer, doing so in this fashion does raise certain questions, not from my lord nephew, and not from myself. But this meeting has not taken place without various third parties taking note of it, many of which also would be quite aware of other events, such as Lady Gwyneth's visit to Mountain's Reach and the fact that she did accompany Lord Dunstan's party during the hunt."
He remains calm and courteous throughout, balancing his concern with protecting Tullison interests with the concern of not seeming to supplant or override his nephew, and of course, a desire to have the Marstens walk out happy.

Though rumors of the sort is likely to circulate regardless of what we do here, those can be quelled if this meeting were to result in another sort of agreement, one that indeed would call for the grand attendance."
Theomore pauses to build up the drama, his attention on Corrine. "
I understand that another marriage is under discussion, this one also involving a cousin of one house and the head of the other, and under the circumstances, this would be a quite fitting pretext to give for holding this meeting, allowing both of our houses to save face."

The alternative, my lady, is that I must advice my lord nephew that certain offers he have made ought be retracted in response, so that others does not see his kind and forgiving nature as a sign of weakness that they may exploit."
Another pause, to let it sink in. "
However, considering our kinship to Ser Benedict, I do believe these items to be quite appropriate wedding gifts."
It is clear enough from his choice of words to Corrine, marry Ser Benedict and House Tullison will stay on it's course of friendship with House Marsten, marry another, and it will stray.

Prior to Dunstan's announcement, Ellie gave Corrine a playfully chastising look. "
I believe we were discussing some sort of cause."
She jerks her thumb at Ben. "
And tight lips wont say a word."

Ben shrugs his shoulders and smiles at Ellen's accusations. Then he looks rather serious. "
Is everything well, my lady?"

OOC: the acknowledgement and training aren't public, so Baelon is lying about it. Awareness rolls (TN 12) would reveal that Baelon doesn't really believe that Theomore would be able to get a meeting easier.
It can't be easier than 'already scheduled'. Rolling Eyes

Theomore, I understand the feeling - I was offline for 10 or 11 hours yesterday, and in that time everything changed... hence my coming up with a reason why Baelon would be running a little late.

At Dunstan's speech calling off the wedding, Ben's jaw drops. His mind goes spinning. Then his eyes narrow in anger at Baelon. Then as quick as the anger came it went, a smile coming to his face as he looks to Corrine. The gods have truly brought us together.

Theomore's words draw his attention.How... Dunstan?. Is he actually supporting this? More using it as leverage. He is as wise as Dunstan thinks. He hastily turns his attention back to Corrine his face expressing he has no knowledge of what is happening.

Dunstan listened to Theo speaking with great interest. At the end of the speech, he nodded affirmatively.

I do agree. Bonds between our Houses will be strengthened by that marriage as well. And I plan to personally escort my Lady Corrine when discussing the matter with Lady Isobel. In light of recent events, the condition to our help will be the acceptance of that marriage."
he says, sounding sure of himself.

Ellie's face is scrunched into a perplexed expression. Her eyes going from Dunstan to Theomore and back as they speak. As Dunstan finishes his last words. The ship finally pulls into port in her head. Her eyes go wide and she lets out an excited noise, that only woman can make, before clamping her hands over her mouth. She looks to Ben and Corrine with wild enthusiasm.

Ben's intentions public so soon, but gives Dunstan and Theo broad smiles.

She raises her glass towards the two men.

[Since it appears nobody quite discussed seating arrangements, I'll be taking liberties, and I'll do so now because of where another thread has been headed.]

Well, then. I believe a change of seating may be in order."
Theomore declares, looking at Corrine. Before anyone else can quite guess his meaning, the man seated between him and Benedict rises and holds out the chair he just occupied with a bow and a smile to her. It had been a most amused observation on maester Haelis' part that Rafford seemed to be Theomore's shadow.

[On the assumption that Corrine accepts this little game of musical chairs, without music or shortage in chairs:]

As Corrine takes her seat, gallantly aided by Raff who seems to enjoy this game of kindness, Theomore leans in to speak in hushed tones. "
Should your lady mother be be less than pleased, I do believe that my lady can use this whole situation to her advantage, she may not like the choice, but taking responsibility for one's actions is never wrong."

No doubt the lady Isobel would be quite wroth with Corrine's taste in men, but if Corrine so decreed, then so it would be.

Corrine accepted the offered change in seating, though with a slightly bemused look that flits between Ben, Theo and Raff. She leaned in a little to hear Theo's quiet words.

"
You speak the truth, Ser Theomore. I quite agree,"
she replied courteously, in a similarly hushed tone. "
I expect she will be displeased, given Ben's background and history, but it will not change my decision. The fact of the matter is that he is a knight, aligned with a reputable House, with the backing of Lord Tullison himself, and enough of the skills that a Lord Protector should have. She expects far too much of my prospects, I think. I was never going to win over a landed Lord. None would take the Marsten name in that case. Her only offer was Ser Baelon, who is both intent on my cousin, and was never interested in me anyway. There are no other candidates. Ser Benedict is a good fit for the House's needs, and for my own. If she does not accept this truth amicably, she must be made to by being reminded that her regency is just that."

Corrine's words and tone were more confident and plain than the way she had been at the dance. She was growing more sure of herself, and less afraid of her mother's judgement, it seemed.

Ben shifts a little in his seat and uncomfortableness comes over him at being ousted in front of all these people. When Corrine finishes speaking he shrugs and delivers her that crooked smile. "
Well, ... to marriage, ... somebodies."
He raises his glass in toast, looking from Corrine to Gwyn and then Baelon.

Ellie can hardly container herself. Her arms fly from her lap to the table and back. Her feet swing rapidly under the table. Her eyes are glued to Corrine, with a goofy smile similar to Pudgys. When Ben toasts she quickly raises her glass.
