Re: General Non-game Chat Thread
I got started roleplaying online, and this is my second SIFRP. The first one was kinda over within a week or two after I joined, but this one's been going strong from March 21st of last year and hit hiatus in May/June of this year. The issue's not with the DM dropping off, but with something outside of his control. Anyway, I guess I'm half-and-half, haven't been playing the setting long enough to lean one way or the other, but one SIFRP game at a time seems plenty enough to handle, aside from the other pbp RP games I'm involved in right now.
Heh, I came into this thinking it was going to be an experience similar to DnD. I was wrong, but I've been enjoying it very much.

Re: General Non-game Chat Thread
I've been in quite a few ASIOAF pbp games that failed, sadly. Including one that had my favorite party setup and character ever (A naive and cheerful silver-haired Velaryon noble girl). *Sighs* I still miss that game.
Had two games flounder in character and house creation, and a few go for quite a while. And I had one where I played a northerner that I would have been very interested to play out, but i never got that far.
I've really wanted to try some new games with my tabletop group, but they are firmly dedicated to Pathfinder.

I'm back, doing my best to ensure this one doesn't fail!
A week or two to polish off some offseason stuff then on to story 3.

So, I made the mistake (or not) to get the mass effect trilogy. Awesome series.
Also liked their take on morality, could work well for Westeros, too.

I'm still waiting for a next-gen remaster that's rumored to be in the works.
I played through the entire saga on the xbox though, several times.

Something that might be of interest to players, especially getting the main rulebook for this very game for $1

Yeah, I think it's time to officially own the rulebook in all it's officially up-to-date glory. Paid to get the Mistborn Adventure Game too. Never heard of it. Something new to get into if it comes up.

Ooh! I get paid next week, so I'll be having that! I already have the rulebook in hardcover, but pdfs are also handy to have, and I definitely want the campaign guide etc. Dresden Files is of interest too.

Re: General Non-game Chat Thread
Just thought I'd drop a post in here to say hello!
I'm having a wonderful time reading back through threads at the moment, trying to get myself acquainted with how things function, so hopefully I'll make a good deal fewer mistakes in coming weeks. Thank you to everyone for having the patience to deal with my first few baby steps into the forum based light.

Welcome!
The most important thing you need to know is that Nathan is good, Theomore is evil, and neither can be trusted.

Indeed, welcome!
Also, I mostly agree with Nathan's assessment... though "
good"
and "
evil"
are tricky here - there's a lot of grey, a lot of dark, and precious little that is pure. The not trusting part.... yeah, that's spot on.

Re: General Non-game Chat Thread
Those with Tullison for last name can trust Theomore. Others (at least if they are NPC's) should be rather careful about it.
Rather than good vs evil, I kinda like to compare the morality of mass effect, Commander Theo Shepard has loads of red points and very few blue ones. Most decisions doesn't really have a right or wrong alternative, just one that makes you feel good and the other makes you feel rotten, assuming your conscience is doing it's job.

Execution is not murder and impalement is a commonly accepted practice in crimes against the church. I don't recall Nathan ever actually torturing anyone otherwise. (IF he ever needs to, I will take the CIA excuse that it was absolutely necessary in a time of war.)
Oh.. there was the time I burned that guy to death, but it was a 'needs must' situation.

Execution is what happens when the local lord (who, by being lord has been give the authority of pit and gallows in the name of the king) has condemned someone to death and the sentence is carried out. Else it is murder.
Theo, btw, has not murdered anyone.

The Septon generally tries to do the right thing, even if he goes about it in the wrong way. Just don't let him catch you doing anything bad to smallfolk though, or you might end up the way of Benjen Frey

Nathan had the authority (granted by Lord Bartheld who was not a PC at the time.) Actually I specifically asked Reader if I had the authority before I went ahead.
As to the rest. In the game where you win or you die, winning is the preferable option.
Nathan has murdered quite a few people... but in his defense, they weren't very nice people.

That's what makes him interesting. Arlyn has given some fine speeches!
