Oh man, I haven't listened to Enigma in years... their 3rd or 4th album, I think.

According to his member page, he last logged on (publicly) on Monday.

Indeed. Really, this would be the perfect time to run the Drakeson tourney (126/05). We just need a board to set up threads in and relevant NC stats.

Like the Redwain tourney, it is only a joust, but it is regional so there could be upward of 500 knights (for the sake of math I am assuming 512 knights, mostly nameless .
Not everybody will be invited, but a tourney of this magnitude is not really something that can be kept secret, so tourney-crashing is quite feasible.

I don't think we would really want to roll out 500+ knight's worth of tilts, nor do I think we would want a larger-scale version of the Redwain tourney where after a few intense early matches there were a whole slew of hand-waived bouts leading to large ransom payoffs to a handful of characters. I'm working on a system to quickly and easily determine a top 8 or 16 to participate in a traditional single elimination. The idea is to abstract out the first 500 or so tilts in a way that rewards the skilled with moving onto the top tiers while also rewarding participation by those less skilled as well. More detail will be forthcoming after reader approves the system. :;

Happy to set up forum stuff for Drakeson tourney to allow some scheming and jousting this weekend, along with a system wide PM to announce that I'm getting back up to speed.

Sorry all for delays, as Loreia noted I've got a lot going on personally (time &
money for repairs, albeit fingers crossed insurance is coming through. Nothing health threatening). Barring a sudden, tragic GoT stlye end I would never drop game without letting people knowing and hopefully passing my spreadsheets + notes on. I've been a player in a couple of these games and know how much work everyone puts in.

lol...I suppose the success of Game of Thrones made it inevitable, but I can't see it ending well. They'd have to rewrite practically the entire series, start to finish.

Seriously though, I think that Wheel of time translates quite well into TV. It's biggest issue is that it is quite cinematic. It wont have that issue in TV form. It might be a huge flop, but remember that Jordans wife is still around, and she did a good job supervising the last books...

I'd love it if they could pull it off.

But if there's one series of books that is MORE needlessly complex and bloated than Game of Thrones, it's Wheel of Time. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it thoroughly, but it would need a HUGE amount of work to make it as streamlined and as comprehensible as it would need to be to work as a television series.

That said, I sincerely do hope they do a good job on it.

Anything else having trouble with all the TV show spoilers floating around? I dont care for the TV series one bit, but since it overtook the books now I am a bit sensitive. And it is practically impossible to avoid any spoilers when even your average newspaper is discussing developments on the frontpage! Evil or Very Mad

I sympathise! Feel free to flag anything on this board - players here are generally pretty considerate.

As you note, the programme's enormous success makes it hard to avoid. I can't even escape from things professionally: at least one piece of investment bank research mentioned ASOIAF last week. Rolling Eyes

Amazingly I haven't heard anything... then again I've been pretty much sequestered the last couple of weeks writing papers, so it might change...

At GRRM's current pace that would probably be a decision for the next decade or so :;
