Ser Walton Dulver wrote:I was just curious: is name Seven Kingdoms appropriate for this moment of Westerosi history? I mean, instead that, we have united Six Kingdoms and lone Dorne, right?
Interesting question.!
As covered previously and in The World of Ice and Fire book, the Targaryens claim seven kingdoms and Dorne as part of their titles. Analogous to various medieval kings making claims to lands they didn't actually hold. Page references/quotes buried elsewhere in the forum.

Re: Game Discussion
For that matter, it depends on how you count kingdoms.
Aegon conquered six kingdoms, but he already had Dragonstone, making seven political units.
I'm sure Maesters debate (in private) about whether or not the stye is accurate.

Re: Game Discussion
There is the North, the Riverlands, the Vale, the Reach, the Westerlands, the Crownlands, the Stormlands, and the Iron Islands. By my count, that's eight kingdoms which the Targaryens rule over, but they are still called the Seven Kingdoms. Dorne is not yet allied with the realm in any capacity.

Re: Game Discussion
The Crownlands don't count and at the time the Targaryen's landed, Hoare held both the Iron Islands and the Riverlands. Hence, there is only 7 kingsdoms including Dorne.

Cross posting from an older thread:
"
Nerd Alert: if we're to believe the "
World of Ice and Fire"
history book (as it's supposed to be a maester's account), the Targaryen Kings have always been styled as "
King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm"
. The text itself notes this is done pre Dorne's submission: the "
Seven Kingdoms"
and "
the Rhoynar"
elements aren't accurate in fact, but they're a claim. Medieval Kings did similarly at various points. [reference: p 45 of "
The World of Ice and Fire"
. Leaving this out isn't wise. :;
): The eagle eyed will notice I included the Rhoynar claim in the original letter from the king (I had to look it up to check how the Targaryens styled themselves at this point)."

Re: Game Discussion
Making the eight refers to the seven kingdoms and the Riverlands, the Crownlands is more of a result of Aegon's initial powerbase than anything else. Seven Kingdoms refers to pre-conquest Westeros, and Dragonstone was a Valyrian outpost originally. Riverlands was more like a patchwork that was occupied by various other kings.

Re: Game Discussion
Claim is one thing, but i started thinking about those 'Seven Kingdoms' we are using frequently in every day situation even if inmedieval someone was claiming something he doesn't have, rather no one was using those titles behind the scene, I guess

Isn't he a Kingsguard? I thought they'd all be Green (or at least enough to be kept around).

No, not Kingsguard. Sworn Sword to the Mootons. There's indeed black and green leaning kingsguard.

I don't know why Kevan thinks he's Green then. Maybe he is. It's not like Houses are all consistent between members.

To be fair, she already had those doubts. Perhaps why she didn't take kindly to having them prodded in public. :;

Nah. If we go in all hot &
heavy about Dorne trying to start a war, with only circumstantial evidence, it will be much worse than if we stick to the facts and don't stir up shit.

Tentative Schedule - subject to change, I'll update this as I go along, adding months and moving things (will announce in thread)

2) Ser Jorah’s Ascension to the Kingsguard [some of you will be present at this]
3) Campaign again House Wyl [some PCs will be involved, not all]
4) Official event choice [canon events resolved in-game!]
a. Coryls Velaryon illness
b. Arrest of Ser Vaemond Velaryon [Ser Jorah will be allocated to this
5) Market town ownership resolution [offseaon's 2's "
House Event"
brings everyone together briefly]
- Plus potentially Ereth Redwain's wedding (and tournament) to work in for those invited!
