Reader, very sorry to pester, but could I have a yea or nay on whether I can count my Mushroom rolls as addressing the crowd so they link up with the Black Mirror thread, or if it's a separate roll. I don't want to finish writing her speech until I know what's permitted.

No probs. Sorry about that.

Corrine - no problem helping Baelon out. I love how helpful everyone is (e.g. Baelon with the forum stuff on how to find another user's posts to Nathaniel recently, Loreia/Baelon/Theo helping on combats, Ben helping roll for Kevan in his absence and anything else I've missed). Helps me focus on NPC stuff/plot stuff.
As to your Mushroom thread - will be on that today. Will remind everyone that Phase 1 only had its soft open yesterday, so there's plenty of time yet for our beleaguered narrator. Want to do that thread justice, and hopefully there's time to do it. Didn't realise you lot would set off the fireworks straight away.

Rofl. Had intended to tackle some of that yesteday and post my draft "Storming the Walls" event to test for Wyl, but wife wanted to go out for tea.
Delighted to see shots fired so soon and I've tweaked something in a later battle to account for this. Severity will depend on how lot do undo the IC clusterfuck.

Re: Game Discussion
No need to be sorry! I put Baelon in the line of fire deliberately, and as you said, my plan has succeeded. Also, it's not so much that his CD is incredible, at least one other PC has higher. It's been a combination of defensive tactics, good armor, and luck that it took this long, really.Reader wrote:Sorry about finally busting through your incredible CD. You've held the Velaryons up for some time at least.
Just a side note - love that show. Need to get my hands on S3 at some point.Lady Corrine Marsten wrote:...the Black Mirror thread...
I think I can speak for us all and say that we like it when you can focus on NPC & plot stuff. It has good (at least from an OOC perspective) results.Reader wrote:I love how helpful everyone is (e.g. Baelon with the forum stuff on how to find another user's posts to Nathaniel recently, Loreia/Baelon/Theo helping on combats, Ben helping roll for Kevan in his absence and anything else I've missed). There are enough firebrands and hotheads among our PCs that I'm not entirely surprised... especially with it coming from Nathan, who is a rather controversial figure in his own right. I doubt the reaction would have been as extreme if you had posted it coming out of Mushroom's mouth.Reader wrote:Didn't realise you lot would set off the fireworks straight away.

Re: Game Discussion
Guy behind Black Mirror has come a long way from reviewing computer games! Great to see someone enjoy that kind of career.
Glad you're enjoying the Velaryon combat - ones like this take a lot longer but it has been good fun so far. As you note, a little more luck and I'd have dumped you in the water or done an extra DoS earlier and had you in significant trouble now. PCs have done well so far against some other the realm's best trained warriors.
Mushroom posts - Nathaniel and I worked that stuff up on his private forum! Theomore's stuff has a poem I've contributed to coming soon.

That poem is probably something best worked into the wrap-up post of the whole scene, I think.
Also waiting for other PC to respond regarding a few details there, since that may or may not be necessary for the thing to be pulled off (as might Theo getting into the top 3 scoring be for full effect.) So you guys needs to wait on all of it, but Theo's rolls and the IC wrappings around them happens after the present fireworks has fizzled out anyhow.

Kevan Lyras wrote:The gambling rewards at the Masquerade Ball really are crazy high. Though Reader will probably find a way to force me to spend it. Like letting me kill a criminal whose son needs very expensive medicine...
They are intended to be crazy high. The gate fee was 25 GD. These are nobles spending money like water on their vices and indulgences caught up in the fervor of the event. The first place for the costume contest is 400 GD. That's 2 Wealth Points in cold, hard coin. Enough to gain the attention of any but the most wealthy.

Toned down the gambling rewards a little and linked it to Status.

That's not a little... that's an epic plunge.
Status in the event is based on your costume roll and is capped at 4. Â Your taking it from 25GD per success to a max of 4 GD per success. The TN is 18. Most are only going to get one success anyway (and there is a high cost of failure).
I call shenanigans.

Re: Game Discussion
Status is your normal status for this. You can bet for higher stakes if you're higher status (genuinely higher status, nor just via cosumes).
Needed toned down a little (a lot) to avoid devaluing other coin awards.

The TN should be lowered to 12 or 9 then to compensate.

Re: Game Discussion
Or add the element of risk in case of failure. You probably won't win 25GD if you can't fork up the cash for it. Could tweak with max be status^2. Mitigated by loosing money on failing.

I'll tweak the TN down, good compromise.
Theo - for other gambling events agree that status gains/losses should increase at a multiplicative or even non-linear pace.

Well technically he is telling the truth (right now) about trying to be a better person... however OOC we know this to be false but the good septon will eat it up hook line and sinker

He's bare-faced lying about being faithful to his wife for the rest of his life. He didn't even manage a year.

Hehe, maybe I should edit his exact words a little bit? Would be in his character to not rule out the occasional passing infidelity.

Well, he chose to break that promise awfully quickly.Theomore Tullison wrote:"I will stay true to my wife until death do us part"
I can't help but think that he was just waiting for an opportunity to come along where he could do so without getting caught. It seems to me that it's kind of his thing, to do things just because he thinks he can get away with it.
If it is a lie though it would be Theo actively bluffing against the Septon's passive awareness - Theo is the "active" member of the conflict test.

Re: Game Discussion
Used to be, maybe. Now he tries to avoid doing things just because he can. Doesn't mean he won't fall to temptation. In truth, since someone whined about debauchery being mandatory for VP, I probably should make a dedication test to see if he manages to keep himself honest. There's a difference between doing something for the future of his children and doing it just for his personal pleasure. The first he'll do if he can get away with it without thinking twice, the second he might do because failing to resist.
Same as the prospects of 4GD per DoS pretty much incentivizes him to go for unmask rather than gambling at Yi Ti. 4 DoS gives him less than a decent tourney ransom. Information carries lower TN and possibly a major clue.
