Re: Fire and Brimstone D5 (OPEN to all Mid evening)
Corrine beckons to Gwyn and Dunstan to come over, and gives them a warm smile before turning back to answer Yoren.
"
Thank you. I do hope that will be the case. Private talk can wait a little while,"
she replied gratefully. "
That is indeed my cousin, Lady Gwyneth Marsten. She is Ser Baelon Waters' intended."

Re: Fire and Brimstone D5 (OPEN to all Mid evening)
When Dunstan saw the young Lady he jumped of the ground.
"
Corrine, my friend! Lady Gwyneth"
he bowed,
"
Would you like some wine?"
He wore simple clothing this morning, and a nasty cut was visible on his forehead, the result hitting the ground in a violent manner during the joust.

Gwyneth comes over diffidently and nods at Yoren.
"
Corrine. I'd not expected to see you here."

"
I was told there would be a lecture on History and Philosophy. Naturally, I was curious,"
Corrine replied cheerily, though she looked sympathetically at Dunstan's head. "
It is good to see you both. I hope your injuries are not too severe, my lord Dunstan."

Gwyn looked at Dunstan, startled.
"
Injuries?! I hadn't heard! Are you all right?"

Dunstan touches the cut
"
Oh tiss but a scratch my Ladies. I am fine as ever. How did the camp fire go?"

Yoren clears his throat, "
Would be best if someone had a look at that, that gash seems innocent enough, but all wounds may fester if not treated properly."

Athelstan is seated far enough to be in the shades, but not to be unnoticed shall someone look his way, he shakes his head brother what have you done to yourself... do I have to kill all ironborn that saw your ceremony so that you can be heir, how much blood must I stain myself with... or rather should I just take yours before someone else does so that you won't inherit after abandoning the Drowned God... I'm cursed to be devout to my faith and my ironblood, such are the burdens of the bear... looking to his wineskin Roddric must be laughing at me right now and waiting to fight me some more at the Drowned God's halls, to bad our brother won't be joining us there...
Athelstan keeps looking at the gathering from a distance not noticing a small trail of tears leaving his eyes Roddric stupid fool, you should have kept your cool instead of lashing out from our quarrel between all of us and Leifnarr... The one that seeded the doubt by naming me a candidate to be heir... You are a fool to...

Lord Yoren's speech was most informative. I had not known the history of R'hllor's worship. While I do not share that faith, it is interesting to learn new things."

Now that you know of it, my duty is well underway. You cannot know what you don't know, but now you may reflect on the matters, and if you have questions about this all you have to do is ask, I will always be available. Even if it is just to sate curiosity, I don't preach, I only teach."

I am glad to hear that you are enlightened in that way,"
Corrine said, approvingly. "
Far too much blood has been shed in the name of the Gods, don't you think?"

It was a nice trick you did when lighting it,"
Gwyn commented, giving Yoren a sidelong look. "
I found the story a little odd though."

"
A drop of blood is too much. I urge people to think anew, but I'm not a pedant, standing on my high ground looking down on all others menacingly. I think that true knowledge is the one you teach yourself. Like a child learning to walk, for things to be natural you will have to reach conclusions by yourself."
He then turns to Gwyneth: "
it was no trick, though it was nice, better than what I expected to be honest. I am sorry about the story, i was never much for re telling history"

Dunstan stands quietly drinking his wine.
Stubbornly pious about the Seven and definitely not philosophically inclined he says
"
Have you ever studied the religion of the Seven? I find it ... great."

"
Well, it's no hard thing to start a fire without stone and stick,"
Gwyn says mischievously. "
And the tale seemed very inconsistent. If R'hallor destroyed Valyria because they kept slaves, what does he now think of all the slaves now kept by those who escaped the Doom? Is he simply powerless to smite them, since they didn't build their cities on a mountain full of molten rock?"

Re: Fire and Brimstone D5 (OPEN to all Mid evening)
Armed and wary, Loreia sits on a bench far from the center of their setup. She stews over the speech given by Yoren, and stares at the flames, as cautious of the whole thing being a ritual in the guise of an open sermon, and of the nature of the fire lit and the role it serves. Previously unworn during her uninvited visit to the Longshore pavilion, warm light flickers on her chestpiece, polished in advance of the open sermon. She occasionally glances at the Ironmen in attendance, wondering what effect the sermon has had on them.
: 4d6k3 12
She stands and observes the light from the fire, tracing it with her eye to the edge of its brilliance until she notices Athelstan sitting in the shadows. Though it need not show in her face, sparks fly from her gaze, dissipating at the edge of the light. She turns back to the fire, eager to leave the man himself as far in the back of her mind as can be at the moment.
She approaches the bonfire, still staring, absent from the conversation. One lies waterlogged beneath the sea, the other engulfed in flame. The Red Lord claiming legitimacy among alleged falsehoods in the hereafter, the Dead in the Deep menacing the land from His watery grave. She questions the flames, but mostly to no one in particular, they say You know the truth, tell me - that which is dead may never die, but can it burn?

Re: Fire and Brimstone D5 (OPEN to all Mid evening)
Yoren is put off by Dunstans statement, but recovers quickly: "
indeed it is great. I've read the sevenpointed star and a few other books concerning the issue."
He looks at Gwyneth "
R'hllor is no hateful god, intervened against the valyrians as they had power. That power was bought at the price of the blood of their slaves. No matter where in the free cities you travel you will not see slaves being treated like they were in the mines of Valyria. That I may promise you. R'hllor makes you deal with your issues on your own, the reason why he intervened in Valyria was that the people could not alter their fortunes on their own. Not with the dragons roaming about."

"
Dragons...armies...slaves are slaves,"
Gwyn points out. "
They are by definition unable to alter their circumstances. What does it matter, the precise nature of the force used to keep them in check? It seems a little inconsistent to me, is all. The Seven are at least consistent in how they don't..."
She broke off, remembering Dunstan and Corrine were there, and quickly covered her tracks. "
...smite the wicked casually, rather than smiting some and not others."

"
Dear friend Yoren"
Dunstan speaks slowly, "
You stand to inherit House Longshore. Now, I am but a young head of House and do not like going around and dishing out advice but.. if there is one thing I learned during this tourney, it is that sometimes you must sacrifice chunks, bits and pieces of yourself in order to save thousands that depend on your leadership. Take House Hoare and Harrenhall as example. His pride did not let him bend the knee to King Aegon, and thousands died under molten stone for it."
Dunstan takes a large gulp from the skin
"
You don't have the privilege of running around, worshiping queer foreign deities and thinkin' how they punished the slavers. There are no slaves in Westeros, there is no fire worshipers, there is you, a future Lord, and the well being of your people."

"
You are right it is only me. There are Dozens, hundred of able Lords, but only a few messengers. My lordship is either lost or gained, it is very little I may do where that is concerned, especially after what you did, or didn't do, now it is little I may do to repair relations."
There is not much reproach in Yorens voice, most regret. "
Now I may dedicate myself completely to this, as I doubt Ferris will hold me anywhere close to responsibility after what happened."
He turns to the lady with her questions: "
I think you are mistaken, slavery comes in many forms and shapes. What they do in the east now holds little more power over the subject than the slavers words, they have a choice. The valyrians did darker deeds than that."
Yoren shakes his head: "
The slavery of today is bad in its own right, but you retain a free will."
Yoren shifts slightly: "
But let's move from that topic, it is best not to mention the crimes committed near the fourteen volcanoes. How is the marriage planning coming along?"

"
What I did?"
Dunstan struggled to understand, "
what exactly did I do?"
"
The point of my words was, if you aspire to inherit your noble House - you must think of the people who depend on you as a future Lord rather than your own whims. If you are to become a Lord, do you think the pious riverlanders will let you sit idly and worship fire, in their home? How many would rise and die for that alone? That is why I would like you to consider approaching the Seven and making peace with the rest of riverlander Houses. For the good of our entire region."

"
No, not really. The hard part's over now, so I expect there'll be a period to just relax and enjoy for a while. There's no hurry."
She nudged Corrine's shoulder with her own.
"
Unlike some people, if I understand correctly."

"
Mother did relent, though I'm not sure if it is a reflection of her true feelings, or whether her acceptance will last. However, we have been discussing where the ceremony should be held. With Riverrun having both a Sept and a Godswood, it's possible that the wedding might be sooner rather than later, since our presence here makes something of an opportunity. Don't worry, I've learned my lesson. I'll keep you well-informed."
She grinned cheerfully as she gently patted Gwyn's arm.

(OOC: There was a delay while I was unsure of Loreia's presence. IC it doesn't take Daveth ~5 minutes to answer.)Yoren longshore wrote:Yoren offers a seat to Daveth asking him briefly before hearing Corrines response: "
Did you bring Loreia with you tonight? And what did you think of my dissemination? we all know that hearsay about Valyria has to be taken with a grain of salt, did i go beyond what would be classified as reasonable behaviour? It is of course not a scholarly approach i had tonight, but was it passable?"
Clearly there's been some shake-up of marriages among the Marsten women. Damnit. I wonder what political impact these changes will have.
"
Loreia's around"
he waves vaguely behind him. "
She seemed thoughtful from your words, so I decided it best not to disturb her. As for if it's reasonable, well, time will tell. As Lord Tullison ably points out, there will always be consequences for being different. Will the consequences be any worse for worshipping R'hllor than they would be for following the Drowned god?"
he shrugs. "
I don't know. But at least you managed to make at least one person in the audience thoughtful, and another asking questions"
a smile and a nod towards Lady Gwyneth "
So, it certainly was at least reasonably successful."
Turning to both the Marsten women. "
Speaking of, I understand from your words that congratulations are in order for you both. If it's not still a secret, would you mind filling in a poor Northerner too tied up with his duties to catch the latest news?"
