When a skin of wine comes her way, she finally snaps out of her glazed focus. Once Athelstan is gone, she doesn't swallow her next quaff, spitting into the flames instead, and visits with the others.Athelstan wrote:"
Don't let my presence ruin your moments, I just brought more wine and speak few words to Yoren"
smiling at all present "
Now if you excuse me I'll go back to sit amongst my own and celebrate my victory in the joust today"
waving all good bye and rejoining the other ironborn to mock the Mallisters.
"
Unbelievable. You be wary of that one, Daveth. Pretendin' there's a chance he'll recover from his ill repute. Givin' us wine that ain't his, flashin' that fake grin. Somethin's not right."

Ben approaches from out of the darkness. His first stop is the Tullison guards on "
Dunstan"
watch. After assessing their situation he moves on to the Marsten guards. He integrates himself with them as he has no jurisdiction over them. When assured all is well, he proceeds toward gathering of people.

Corrine is in the process of trying to take Yoren off to one side to speak privately, but she gives Ben a warm smile of greeting, and a subtle head cant, letting him know that she will join him once her business is concluded.

Ben smiles back to Corrine. Not seeing the one he sought among the crowd of familiar faces he moves toward the nearby Ironborn gathering. Will he reason or beat me over the head with rhetoric. Or worse yet his axe. Ben smiles at that thought.

The men quiet down as one points at the approaching greenlander "
You have a visitor"
"
It's ok, gives us a few moments"
the other ironborn get up among some grumbling and looking at Ser Benedict warily...
Athelstan opens a new wineskin and offers it to Ser Benedict "
Funny how the roles are reversed, when greenlanders visit ironborn"
looking back at the fire "
You here to show bravery before lord and loved, or to really talk and listen?"
curious face and even tone stare at BNenedict waiting for is answer.

So, what did you want to speak off?"

She knelt down facing him, carefully tucking her skirts under her.
"
I am concerned about Athelstan. He seems to be bearing a grudge against Lord Dunstan Tullison, and my betrothed, Ser Benedict Blackthorne, by association. I suspect he may bear a grudge against Ser Baelon Waters and myself too. He has harassed all of us, both yesterday and today;
barbed remarks, intruding on private conversations, offering gold dragons for salacious information, thinly veiled threats, and he even presented me with his eye in a box for some ghoulish reason I cannot even fathom. I am increasingly convinced of his instability, and I cannot stand by and let him do these things. He seems intent on ignoring any attempts to dissuade him, so I feel I must turn to you. Please, convince him to leave us be."
It was clear to Yoren, looking in her eyes, that, beneath her calm, careful, and courteous wording, she was very afraid of Athelstan.

Yoren frowns slightly: "
That is strange behaviour indeed. Do you know what caused him to start acting this way? If you wish we may talk to him, but don't worry, I don't think he does it out of malice."
Yoren gives a friendly smile, attempting to calm Corrine down: "
Athelstan is a strange one, and I cannot start to fathom his reason for doing such actions, but I am sure that we may clear it with him if we just ask."
Yoren gives his arm to offer Corrine help in raising from the ground, thinking that the situation is already solved, at least until Corrine speaks again.

"
I... I don't think that is a good idea,"
she says anxiously. "
Especially not with all these people here. I don't want a scene. I can explain more. Please sit, and I will tell you all I know. Just please, don't make me talk to him."
She looks even smaller and more vulnerable from his vantage point, looking down at her.

Yoren sees her fear and rushes to sit down before patting her back, unsure what to do. "
Don't worry about it, you just talk to me and I will solve everything. Would you want something to drink before you start?"

Re: Fire and Brimstone D5 (OPEN to all Mid evening)
"
Thank you, but I am fine,"
she replies, relieved that he is willing to listen.
"
Well, I think his issues come from more than one thing, but I will explain how I understand it. Lord Tullison is charged with investigating the awful business with Ser Benjen Frey and the poor smallfolk girl. Lord Tullison publicly offered a small reward for anyone who had relevant information that would aid the investigation. Athelstan mistakenly seems to have taken that as Lord Tullison looking to frame Frey, and proceeded to offer a gold dragon to anyone who would bring him incriminating information about Lord Tullison. He says it is to demonstrate that Dunstan is a hypocrite, and condemning Frey without trial, but he has completely misunderstood the situation, and it does not even concern him in the first place."
She ran a hand through her hair with a heavy sigh before continuing.
"
Then there is Ser Benedict. I suspect Athelstan's problem there is twofold;
that Ben is loyal to Dunstan, and that Ben is my betrothed now. I am not sure how much Athelstan has told you of me, but he had sought my hand, which I left up to the Gods, told him that, if he triumphed at his trial, that would mean the Gods had found his claims true and his heart righteous. If he had won, I would have given him my hand. But he yielded, and so is judged guilty. He did not respond well when I told him I would not marry him, and for that transgression, he gave me the gruesome 'gift' I mentioned before. What sort of man does that to anyone? Let alone a woman he claims to love! Since then, I have been afraid of him, and angry. I regret hurting him, but I must listen to my heart and my conscience, and they told me he was wrong for me. I believe he now hates me, and will seek to harm Ben, to punish me for rejecting him. Ben wants to try and make peace, but I'm not sure he can. Athelstan is so volatile, and refuses to even consider that he might be wrong about his assumptions. His issue with Ser Baelon seems more straightforward. He resents his defeat, though nobody made him yield but himself."
She shrugs at that. She gathers herself up out of the emotional state that was threatening to break out, reclaiming her calm, businesslike tone;
"
I think his own judgement has made him see injustice everywhere, and he is lashing out in spite. But it has to stop. His behaviour is stirring up trouble, and, aside from the emotional distress it is creating, if he keeps fostering resentment among the Ironborn, it will endanger our agreement. I ask that either you convince him to desist, or ensure that he stays away from the Tullisons and the Marstens. Give him a ship and send him away, if you must."

she replies, relieved that he is willing to listen.

"
Well,"
sighs Gwyn as everyone seems to retreat to their own corners. "
This was...momentarily amusing. And suddenly oddly awkward. If you'll all excuse me, I think the festivities here have played themselves out."
She gives Daveth and Loriea a smile and wave, and turns to head back out into the deepening sunset.

Yoren looks concerned. "
I take your words very seriously. However, I am fond of dealing with matters when all people in question is present. What this means is simply that I will not talk of Dunstan with Athelstan unless they are both present. The same goes for Benedict. If you allow me I may talk to him of your... worries without you needing to be present. So if Dunstan and Benedict does not want to speak with Athelstan in person they will have to ask me themselves."
Yoren smiles, "
It is not that I don't trust you, I just want them to give me their permission personally before I talk of issues related to them."
Yoren lies a finger that is calloused on the tip, much like Corrines on his lips.
"
I have a policy of not spreading sensitive information about people, unless I get their express permission."
Yoren cocks his head: "
Do you know if they will want to speak with him, or if they have similar concerns to your own and don't want to speak to him? I will need to know about that before I arrange a meeting with Athelstan."
Yoren then bows closer to Corrine, speaking in little more than a whisper. "
Athelstan has spoken of a woman, but never of your name or identity. He has another telling of the unfolding of the events entirely. I would urge you to meet with him in person to discuss the matters, but that is your choice entirely. I will speak your case no matter what, but I think the effect would be greater from your own mouth."

Ben looks at Athlestan in amusement. "
I think you misunderstand why I am here. I am not a stupid man and I may not know all, but I see clearly. I have no questions about what has transpired. All men ... and women live with horrible and traumatic events and losses in this world, some more than others."
He looks squarely at the Ironborn. "
My father calls that the high cost of living."
Ben recalls the image of a burning ship and the screams of men aboard. "
We all have our demons."
He runs his hand across his face as if to rouse himself. "
All I need know is what can be done to solve our problems. I know explanations are not like to sway you, so the easy way to find answers is to just ask. What the hell do you want? What will make you feel justified?"

I believe Ser Benedict and Lord Tullison are not averse to speaking with Athelstan, for the purposes of settling Athelstan's grievances,"

"
What transpired"
Athelstan laughs "
I killed Roddric for trying to kill me first when he drew my blood, act condemned and illegal among ironborn, but the night before Leifnarr named me candidate be heir fight between all four of us ensued. Yoren reaped the moment and I got punished by gods not my own"
shrugging "
Then I was expected to beat Ser Baelon with out hurting him or killing him, and she would have married me, or die trying then she calls me a coward for not perishing in the duel so I give her my eye as its the last thing she will take from me"
Athelstan stands and glares at Benedict "
Now do you think you know all that transpired?"
Knowing Ben had already judge him before hand anyway like all greenlanders "
Can your lord admit he is a hypocrite, does creating a bastard seem funny, he will carry the stain of his sin, while he trounces around like its his right, yet he claims to be devout but only when it suits him. Now tell me Im wrong and until now you knew what has transpired, I grieve my brother Yoren puts a mummers show to look the part. His trip has changed him and now he cant be heir as he has reveal3d he worships R'ollor"
almost spitting the name "
Change your lords ways that is all, what I would want you cannot change nor your lord opinion of me. I bear you or her no ill will"
sitting looking back into the flames and drinking "
I would offer you wine from Essos since he invited you all, but that just gets spit away adding insult to the host"

Corrine looks around for Dunstan and Ben, sees Gwyn getting up to walk out as her gaze sweeps past, and then sees Ben talking to Athelstan. The creeping dread grips her, her whole body stiffening, but she manages to return her gaze to Yoren with a congenial smile.
"
It seems Ben has already found him. I think it would be quicker if you approached them yourself right now. I wish to take the air. Thank you for your time, my lord Yoren."
She curtsies, and moves to follow Gwyn.

Perhaps they should have had you cut off your ears instead of your eye, because you don't seem to use them anyway. I clearly stated I don't know all and I did not care to. If you wish to hear Dunstan admit he was wrong in his actions I will attempt to make him see things from your view, but somehow I feel that will not even appease you."
He stands unmoved by Athlestan's rise to his feet. "
As for your family problems, no offense, but I could give a fuck. I don't judge you because of that or anything I was no part of. I judge you by your actions now and over our past encounters. If I unfortunately ever find myself in your situation. We would not be standing here talking. I would be on my way to the wall or in the ground."
